O L I V E R G U S T A V S T U D I O ___________________________________

Last weekend when I was on a work trip in Copenhagen, I had a few hours off on saturday to walk around in that beautiful city. Lucky me, my favorite store/gallery Oliver Gustav was open, and with Oliver´s permission I could take a few pictures in there. This is the first time I blog with my mobile images and that is probably nothing I intend to continue with, but hope you will be as inspired by the interiors as I was.

Set on a monochrome backdrop, Gustav’s space uses light and shadow, highlighting is attention to surface and scale.
“I am kind of frightened of colours,” says Gustav of the space, “I think it comes from the fact that I really like environments to be peaceful—I don’t like objects that attract too much attention.”

FORM US WITH LOVE

So good to be here. All rooms in the house are not ready yet, we have still lot´s of unpacked boxes so I will show now and then different rooms that are ready here on the blog. The colour in the living room is the same that we hade in our last bedroom, Antik grå from Jotun lady.

NEXT MOVE ____________

Two years ago we moved from the west coast of Sweden to Stockholm,
and since then we’ve lived in a rented house on the island Ekerö. Our plans were to find a place to build a new house and after a while we did.
For over a year we’ve been building the new house, still on Ekerö but closer to the city,
and finally it’s time to move in!
This thing about moving is starting to become a routine…
I’m so looking forward to furnish and decorate the new house. And indeed, it’s gonna be new –
all walls and ceilings are painted in grey colors. It feels like the white period is over for me, at least for a while,
and that I’m heading for a new kind of minimalism. Exciting.
Here are the last pictures from this house, and it’s time to start packing.
I promise to post pictures from the new house as soon as we’ve moved! You will find more  daily updates ad pictures from the new house from my instagram annaleenashem. See you there!

HOTEL FURILLEN ______________

This summer I visited one of the Swedish islands called Gotland. Gotland is known for its barren landscape, beautiful beaches and lime stone pits. There I found this pearl, a hotel called Furillen.

Furillen used to be a place used by the military – an area surrounded by barbed wire which tourists as well as inhabitants on Gotland stayed away from. But when the military abandoned Furillen, Johan Hellström started to use the area and the old lime stone factory for his photoshoots, since the environment was unique the light absolutely incredible. In 1999 he bought Furillen, with all its surroundings, and started to transform the lime stone factory into a hotel and restaurant. Today Furillen is listed as a member of design hotels.

The result is simply brilliant. Therapy for the soul.

BACK FROM LONDON

I’m back with Emmie from an amazing week in London! We exhibited at Tent London during the London Design Festival, with a collaboration between ANNALEENA, Ylva Skarp and Lightwork under the name Swedish Hem. You can read more about Swedish hem here. It´s been so exiting, we exhibited our collection RAILS for the first time out of Scandinavia, and the response has been great. Located in the creative Shoreditch, Tent London offered a dynamic mix of up-and-coming designers and established brands, and was inspiring for visitors as well as exhibitors. Here are some pictures from the stand. My visual favorite from Tent London was the café, made of large pipes in paperboard and designed by Helen Hughes studio. Brilliant.

INTERIOR _________finnish summer house

I’m especially weak for Finnish homes and interior design, probably since I have my roots in Finland and have been growing up there. During the spring the lovely Finnish stylist and interior blogger Minna Jonas have renovated her summer house in Finland, and I must say I love the result! A calm oasis, modern but still in line with the nature outside. Very Finnish!

MY LONDON _____________

It’s starting to become a yearly tradition for me to go to London during springtime. And this time I discovered a few lovely spots.

I always choose the hotel carefully when I travel, since a nice place to stay matters when it comes to the total impression of the trip.
That’s why I chose La Suite West Hotel, which is located in the centre of London (at 41-51 Inverness Terrace). It definitely lived up to my expectations! It’s a calm and clean hotel with a minimalistic approach. The food was amazing, and the breakfast generous. The room I stayed in was well planned, with the most amazing bathroom all covered in marble…!

A few shops I would recommend, if you’re interested in interior design, is of course Selfridges. They have a Nordic department, with a great supply of established as well as upcoming designers.
Another store I really liked is Dark Room. The have a selection of graphic products, but they also sell others design that matches their graphic concept.
If you like chocolate, which I definitely do, you must pay a visit at Mast Brothers, London’s chocolate makers. It is a simply beautiful store, and you can watch the (delicious!) chocolate being made behind glass. The chocolate truffles are delicately cut in straight lines, which you all know I’m crazy about…

Also, Aesop is always lovely to visit. You recognize their concept even if their stores look creative. These pictures are taken from the store at Russel Square.
The store Monologue opened relatively recently. I think it’s a fresh addition to the interior stores in London, with a mixed style of Tom Dixon and Hay.
Another tip is the Victoria & Albert museum, which is the world’s greatest museum of art and design. At the moment they are presenting an exhibition about Alexander McQueen, which I’ve heard is really good, but unfortunately I missed it since you need to book tickets a few months ahead.
Finally, the best way to explore London, I think, is to pick a few areas and walk around at an easy pace, and of course, take time to drink many cups of coffee in beautiful surroundings.

SHADOW BLUE __________ that something

I said it before and I will say it again. Sometimes you only need to do some small changes to add something new to your home.
I had wanted for a long time to paint our living room with a darker color but since we move this summer there was no point to start now. But instead, I tested a dark color on our square wooden pot and the shelves and suddenly I’ve got it. Something new.

Colour from my favorite, Jotun Lady Pure Color ( skuggblå) color code. 4629 /S5005-R80B

I I T T A L A __________ annaleena + kuukuna

When I was asked to show Iitalas new lamp kuukuna at my blog, I didn’t hesitate. Partly because I grew up with Finnish design and the strong clean expression that Iitala represents, but also because Kuukuna lamp is as if created especially for my home and my style. I love the round organic form and the fact that it is handmade by a glass-blower, which gives it high quality as well as a simple and timeless design. I fell for its pleasant design, but especially its light. Kuukuna lamp glows with a unique warm shade when you turn it on.Kuukuna was originally designed in 1986 by the master craftsman Oiva Toikka and made by expert glass blowers in Iittala’s atmospheric Finnish workshops.  And now Iittala has dug into its archives and decided to resurrect this mouth-blown glass light. Im very happy for that./ Iitala

When it comes to decorations in my home, I choose always less is more.
Not because I don´t like many things but only because I think it is easier to find stuff.
Decorating with few things gives also more calming expression and less details to look at. And with less stuff in front at a time, highlights all your favorite things. Here´s some of mine favorites right now.

STENHUGGARDOTTERN ____________ stone/ marble plates

Beautiful things don´t just happen. Neither did this gorgeous plate of limestone. It is a product of generational genuine craftsmanship, where the father has been running a stonemasonry as his father and now the creative daughter Josefine has used their knowledge of the stone and taken it to the next level and started to make these beautiful stone plates. The plates are available in two different designs in limestone and Carrara marble. Gotta love the limestone! More pictures on their home page here.
