Myanmar travel journal: a story of not every trip is sunshine and rainbows

It all started with starting to question myself. It was around Christmas time, and we’ve committed to attending a wedding of a couple that I’ve never met. The groom is a childhood friend of Abel’s and we thought what better opportunity to reconnect with an old friend, and when else would we ever go to […]

california dreamin’ travel journal

In the middle of winter and snow, I’m dreaming of California more than ever. Los Angeles, a dystopian city gone right. The beaches surrounded by traffic, and blessed In-N-Outs. Even their cultural memes (a gauntlet from BoJack to Californication) are qualities you can vibe to. I think we’d like to retire there some time. Just, paying our beach […]

As I’m writing this to you, we’re awaiting for another blizzard, expecting 12-18 inches of snow. Now I may be an overly dramatic ex-Californian, but that’s a lot of snow in the middle of March. le corset

Happy International Women’s day, friends! Here am I experimenting with a corset for the first time in awhile, where once upon a time in the 1900s, it was a required “uniform” for most women. Fast forward to 2017, I’ve never been a big fan of dress codes, so it’s with a bit of irony that I styled this corset on this day. Are you excited for the corset trend as much as I am? I’ve been looking for the vinyl like pants of my dreams for awhile now, and it just made sense to style with this corset. You know my love for layering, so I just threw the corset over a white tee to make it a little feminine yet edgy at the same time. I got this corset from Zara, but linked a few other options below. Here’s to being, respecting and raising powerful women. And always thankful for the men who are by our side and treat us as equals. 🙂 Thank you for reading! xx i’m wearing white tee (similar here) mesh top patent vegan leather pants Acne Studios cardi (similar here) Miu Miu shoes (steal option here) vintage Chanel bag

the hoodie trend

So I can’t believe I’m doing another post on the hoodie trend… The first one takes us back to San Francisco and my startup days (read here). Hoodies have a special place in my heart. First of all, it represents my nerdy side. Second, it’s hubby’s uniform, to the point where I’d complain on occasion in the past.  You can imagine my excitement when I realized hoodies are back with a vengeance. They are no ordinary hoodies either. From fast fashion to high luxury brands, everyone is making their own version. Think hoodies with embroidery, exaggerated cuffs, oversized silhouettes, bold texts.. you name it they got it.  But why all of a sudden hoodies took over the world do you think? It’s quite interesting that athleisure trend is here to stay despite the Olympics ended. Could it be the current social and political landscape that’s causing us to go casual? Or it’s simply a way to represent a lifestyle, you know the attitude that you don’t care or you work out all the time. Whatever it is,  I’m loving the fact that street is taking over the runways. To honor that, I’m sharing 5 hoodies I love below. Thanks for reading as always! xx […]

back to basics

Part of what inspired me to start Fashion Mews was to create this ideal capsule wardrobe with the most essential basics. The items that I could wear over and over again, and mix and match to create different looks. A minimal capsule wardrobe means less time to worry about what to wear every day, less noise and more space. I was recently introduced to EILEEN FISHER’s System, eight essential pieces for my wardrobe, which is exactly answering all my questions! Made out of 97% organic cotton (you guys know that I’m a health freak!), and quality fabrics like silk and linen, I was completely in love. EILEEN FISHER‘s System is exactly what I needed during pre fashion week when I’m running around town, don’t want to worry about what to wear every day, but look stylish. I styled the short shell top with the straight pants over a simple white turtleneck, and all you need is a statement bag and/or shoes to elevate the whole look for day or night. Clean, sleek and simple, my kinda outfit. In collaboration with EILEEN FISHER, all opinions are my own.

hair detox with Shu Uemura

As you already know my hair has been through quite an adventure last year. The combination of having it colored/bleached many times, living in the city which have left me to deal with urban aggressors like dust and pollution, and during the winter time my hair is so dry it’s no fun to comb through anymore. New Year means it’s time for a detox. I’ve always been a big fan of Shu Uemura, and own a few of their products at home to style my hair. So you can imagine my excitement when John Barrett salon introduced me to a new Shu Uemura regimen to address my concerns. tomboy glam and NYE unresolutions

Photography by Evgeniy Sorbo You can always tell the energy of December gets intense in NYC. The combination of overworked NYers, and end of the year reflection conversations in your head can drive you to overwhelming places. Like downloading that addicting game app you’ve been avoiding, and there goes the next 48 hours. Besides learning to meditate and focus on now to be more present, an exercise hubby taught me was to really reflect on the past year. We wrote down 3 accomplishments I’m most proud of. What a year it has been. Now that I have my closure, it’s time look at 2017. Resolutions or goals are aimed to be constructive, but they can get limiting. For the upcoming year, my goal is to take it one day at a time, and do everything I can to seize every minute of it. We cannot control the past or the future, but now. Which brings me to my next pursuit for 2017, what makes me happy. To inspire and be inspired. japan style journal

Welcome to my Japan style journal. I wore so many looks through out the Japan trip, and with so many cool locations in Tokyo and Kyoto we visited, we just had to document it. All the looks displayed here are the actual clothes I wore to walk around the city for miles and miles (averaged 10K+ steps a day). As you can imagine, comfort and heat/utility were top priorities without sacrificing my style. I’m not going to lie I’ve been living in my favorite chunky knits, vintage Miu Miu suede jacket, as well as favorite booties been non stop wearing since last winter. As year is ending, we’ve been in a non stop work, with a side of reflections mode. We can’t wait to share more with you soon. top 10 things to do in Japan

This was our first time as a couple, so there may be that tinge of bias on our recommendations.  A special thank you for your patience as we had to go through so many images to put this guide together. Without further a-do here’s list of our favorite 10 things to do in Japan. 🙂  1. Stay in Shinjuku It’s got the clublights, redlight, the gay, and high fashion. Try to get as close as you can to Shinjuku Station, which will basically take you anywhere in Japan, let alone Tokyo. 2. Ramen Every shop will focus on the meat, noodle, or broth. Which do you value most? Then go from there. To be honest, it’s one of those places where no matter where you go, you’ll get a pretty solid place if you just do some light research. I like Lucky Peach’s ramen list, for starters. 3. Meiji-Shrine Central Park meets Tokyo. Go on a stroll, wash your hands/mouth in preparation for prayer. Donate a few coins like the locals, bow your head twice, clap twice, and bow one last time. 4. Coffee Shops Third-wave coffee shops like Deus Ex Machina, Cafe Kitsune, and Reissue were our faves! We were […]

why do you want to succeed?

Greetings from Japan! We’ve been on a non stop trip between LA-SF-Kyoto-Tokyo which came is just at the right time. I’m going to be honest, I’ve been feeling burnt out to the bone since our move to NYC six months ago. Luckily, just when I thought I was down, my better half pulled me up. Thanks for guest writing, Abel, on a very timely subject! why do you want to succeed? I was going to write about some “NEVER QUIT” inspo, but at the last minute, something gave me pause.   Since we started boxing, I’ve been intrigued by this sports pyschology book by Timothy Gallway. Here’s a nice narrative summary of it, it’s worth every minute you watch if you haven’t. Substitute “tennis” with your own hobbies or any skill in life. The author introduces concepts like two game selves (the one that is built by instinct muscle memory, the other the “critiquer”), a present mind, the power of now, things at first glance you’d probably find relatable to how you think about your mental game. But this quote really stuck out for me:”‘People who only look for measurable success,’ Gallway says, ‘can have a one-dimensional existence.’ It’s possible to go through life […]

when you have nothing to wear

what to wear when you have nothing to wear This week’s theme is simple. I am fighting this cold, and juggling many projects at the same time, which gives me very little time to think. And this clearly reflects on my style, I go for my lazier looks. What is better than black and nude together? Ice cream maybe, or matcha donuts. What I mean is, the recipe is simple. It involves a pair of denim jeans  (denim diet no more), a very affordable cold shoulder cardigan and leather jacket. If you want to add that oomph, throw a pair of statement heels, and voila, ready to conquer the world! why I started blogging

Photography by Alex Pines It’s been awhile since I had a chance to do a personal post. As I pass my one-and-a-half year mark since Fashion Mews started, I find myself feeling that I learned a lot, yet I still know so little. And to be honest, this time period has also been really intense, leaving very little time for me to spend with hubby, our cat Ram Ram, family and close friends. So of course I had to get really good at prioritization, which is a work in progress. I also receive a lot of questions every day, such as how I evolve my blog, or what camera do you use (Abel wrote a post about cameras here and iPhone photography here), or how do I grow faster? I’m sorry I can’t respond every single question. BUT if you dig into our entrepreneurship articles, it actually responds to a lot of your questions. 🙂 There’s one burning question that has a special place in my heart. I tried to answer it briefly during a Q&A post, but I feel like it deserves its own post. Why I started blogging in the first place? It’s so simple.. Nail art (!?). Yes, I always […]

the denim diet

While I love denim like everyone else on the planet, I’ve been making an extra effort to take a break and experiment out of my comfort zone. Which also includes gasp.. lots of skirts and dresses as you may already noticed from the latest posts. To my surprise, this mini diet made me discover a lot of about my style and what I like to wear outside of the denim realm. A new season change is also a sign to change within, and with the incoming fall I’m having a lot of fun experimenting with oversized silhouettes, from shirts to culottes. The evolution doesn’t just end there. I’ve been also drawn to with brighter colors as the days are getting shorter. While I can’t quite tell the exact reason, part of it may be inspired by sunny California days, a way for me to brighten up gloomier days in New York City. So here’s to more nudes, whites and even blues. But of course blacks are always welcome. NYFW part 2: Tadashi Shoji

Photography by Alex Pines NYFW part 2: Tadashi Shoji SS17 Another big highlight of the NYFW experience was the Tadashi Shoji SS17 fashion show as well as the backstage experience (see NYFW part 1 here). You already know by now my obsession with details. And if you can’t already tell from the photos, Tadashi Shoji is all about the details life. Inspired by Buddha’s own words “All things change”, the Spring 2017 collection is a vision of rebirth. Think parachute skirts, flowy feathers and lace, intricate back details. So delicate, yet there’s an edge to it. The show left me dreaming of spring after all. Inspired by the delicate details, I opted out for an all white look, dress by See by Chloe, and the Dior booties I’ve been dying to wear since the beginning of summer. i’m wearing See by Chloe dress Dior booties (similar here) Chanel bag Let’s connect on Instagram and Bloglovin.

NYFW part 1

NYFW SS17 part 1: Noon by Noor While I wipe away my fashion week battle wounds with lots of comfort food and an emergency trip to the Céline store (oops, it’s all on Snapchat), I wanted to walk you through my first part of the NYFW adventure. This year, I kept my motto “quality over quantity” at the shows too and made an effort to see the designers I was truly passionate about. The first show that kicked off NYFW SS17 was Noon by Noor, two sisters from Bahrain, and they’re the first GCC brand to be invited by IMG to show in NYC. Dreamy pastel colors, and flowy silhouettes nonetheless left me craving for spring, and oh mind you it’s only fall in NYC. You can only imagine my fear for the winter, as this is going to our first one in a long time since our move from California. The highlight of my NYFW this year has been the backstage experience. It’s a new point of view to see what happens behind closed doors, the order within chaos, and just being invisible watching everyone get ready for five maybe 10 minutes of show is a moment to remember. And […]

transitioning into fall

transitioning into fall with bomber, slip dress and suede As September hits, you’ll start feeling the cool breeze despite the 80 degrees temperature in the city. While I’m not ready to give up on summer completely just yet, I love experimenting with fall pieces here and there thanks to Topshop’s new in. You know my love for Topshop since the beginning, they always make amazing on trend pieces, with the right combination of quality and price. Last week, I had the pleasure to visit the Topshop Fifth Avenue store to meet their personal shopping team, and boy did they helped me up my fall game. While I love online shopping, trying out pieces in-person with the help of Adrian, my personal stylist was clutch. After careful deliberation, we settled on a 90s inspired look (of course!), with a touch of suede and satin. I’m committed to investing in slip dresses and bomber jackets this fall, because it’s effortless and edgy. You can dress it up, or down, the go-to combo for “oh I don’t what to wear today” days. Suede heels are optional, but highly recommended. Oh, have I mentioned they can deliver your goodies the same day via messenger? I may […]

What to prep for NYFW It’s that time of the year again… NYFW I’m looking at you! Those of you who are first timers, I wrote a post on how to attend NYFW. This time, we’re digging deeper, and focusing on how to get noticed by street style photographers. And ladies and gentlemen, let me break it down for you, your poses are everything! This area is something I need to improve on myself, getting used to the camera, especially with strangers is no easy task. ask me anything

Awhile back I held an ask me anything opportunity on Instagram. Thank you everyone for submitting for your inquiries! Below are my favorites that I was able to answer this time around. xx 1. What brand defines your style, if any? @dailykongfidence Hmm so many to choose from! But I think I would narrow it down to two. One: Alexander McQueen because he’s the one who got me in fashion in the first place and I’m a skull lover. Two: Acne Studios, because they know how to feed my minimalist side, and I just want to keep wearing everything they make over and over again. 2. Where do you get your inspiration from? @plazitic Everywhere! We live in Lower East Side which feeds me so much inspiration. I’m drawn to all the street art, art galleries, museums, and coffee shops around here. I’ve been also an avid reader of Porter to keep myself up to date with current trends. 3. What made you start doing this? @currentlycaro After putting in a few startup years, I felt really burnt out and needed a break. And by break, I mean I wanted to pursue my own thing, and combine my love for […]

hamptons travel journal

Photography by Abel and I It’s been over a week since we’ve been home, and I’ve been dreading putting this Hamptons travel journal as it’s giving me a serious case of wanderlust. That feeling of traveling make up free with messy beach waves is long gone, but looking at these photos make me want to plan our next adventure. Noteworthy spots: Sunset Beach, Tutto Il Giorno, Wölffer Estate Vineyard, Red Bar Brasserie, Hamptons Coffee Company and Canal Cafe. i’m wearing white swimsuit cover up khaki dress Balenciaga slides Janessa Leone hat vintage Chanel bag Let’s connect on Instagram and Bloglovin.

favorite summer color (hint: it’s not white)

While we may be still a little sun drunk from our trip to the Hamptons last week, I haven’t forgotten about the blog.. What is your go to color for the summer? I can’t help but gravitate towards darker colors *ahem* all year long. Think dark nails, and naturally dark clothing, namely my favorite color black. I’ve been guilty of putting together all-black outfits summer long, but you know what they say right.. wear what you feel comfortable in. So here’s an all black look, for a night out in the Hamptons. First grab some dinner at Tutto Il Giorno accompanied by some brut Champagne. And the rest, well that’s for you to decide. Until next time.. xx i’m wearing Zimmerman romper Givenchy heels vintage Chanel bag Let’s connect on Instagram and Bloglovin.
