Wellness and my favorite tea for flu season or any season!

I’ve made it a personal goal to share more about wellness on the blog and social media as it has become more and more of a topic of interest in my own life! This Winter I’ve spent an obscene amount of time fighting off illness, more days sick than healthy and I’m really not ok with it. Being sick makes you appreciate the times that you’re well but also can cause a person to rethink their lifestyle and what sort of contributing factors are causing sickness.

While this recipe is by no means revolutionary, I thought I’d still begin by sharing something that is my go-to when filling under the weather, especially is a sore throat is one of the symptoms. Peel ginger with the side of a spoon, chop it up into chunks and pour steaming-hot water over the top. I try to let it steep for about 10 mins to allow enough ginger to melt into the water. The I squeeze half a lemon through a sieve (find the gold ones here) to catch seeds, over the top and a teaspoon of raw honey, maybe a little more. Not only is is warm and soothing to a sore throat but ginger helps with nausea and pain. Lemon aids in hydration, adds Vitamin C and is a powerful antibacterial while the honey soothes a cough and helps you sleep.

My tree decor plus 12 of my favorite ornaments / 5 Days of Christmas

At home this year our tree, which we will get next week, will have just a few select ornaments. Our stored Christmas decor from years past is always brought out again at Christmas time but inevitably I add one or two new ornaments to our stock. And it turned out that most of our glass bulbs were broken, so that was good enough of a reason to find a few new ones. I wanted to keep with gold and warm brown and cream so these paper ornaments from H&M were perfect. I also fell for Ferm Living’s brass leaf ornaments and a couple new ones for the kids from Maileg. Below are a few more favorites, just in time for Christmas!

A tip for you on a snowy day

Ad // Sponsored post in collaboration with Ellos.
Waking up today and seeing the first snow fall out of my window really made me appreciate staying in bed and working from in between my covers. With an amazing view from both the bedroom windows and a hot cup of tea really the only reason I got up was to snap quickly some photos, then tuck myself back in and put my mac on my lap so I could work for the next few hours.
And since I am spending a few precious hours in bed,I have a tip for you today, if you are looking for a conscious choice when it comes to sheets of good quality that are budget friendly. The Juliette Organic Cotton range from Ellos is not only environmentally friendly, but very soft and comfortable as well. The colors vary, mine as seen in the photos is Kittgrå , a beautiful shade between Ecru and gray. Can you blame me for not wanting to get up?

How to set a minimal autumn table with Pillivuyt

Ad // Sponsored post in collaboration with Pillivuyt.

Fall for me doesn’t only signify the beginning of the cold season but also the start of the wonderful gatherings season, I am always so much looking forward to dinners with friends indoors and plans for fun nights have already begun. One of the most fun part of hosting a dinner is setting up the table and today I would love to share some tips with you on how to style a minimal Autumn table. The elegant Pillivuyt Plissé line fits perfectly with the design I have in mind and in this case I chose to make it the center of the table setting. Read below for tips on how to recreate my Fall Autumn Table setting!

1. Often the most difficult decision when beginning a design plan is choosing the color palette. I almost always end up choosing white when it comes to tableware because they are easy to style and they will match and complement any styling, no matter how traditional, minimal or whimsical.
2. Table runners and linen tablecloths will define the placement of the table, however if you have a beautiful table , there is no reason to hide it under cloths. If anything I find a minimal table setting will look even more beautiful on a wooden surface, plus it is so much easier to handle spills! Place linen white napkins however in between plates to give a warm and inviting feeling.

3. Even a minimal composition has need for rules and structure, adding a big centrepiece will help define the placement of the tableware but be careful that it does not distract from the design plan. I suggest using a big glass vase that not only will make a statement but its transparency will make it light and it will not obstruct the view.
4. Flowers are a favorite of mine, for my minimal design plan I chose a few simple stems in mustard color (so very autumnal)  and arranged them in my big vase. If you wish you can also add one stem on every plate for each guest, or add something else that represents fall for you. I filled the top bowls of my table design with chestnuts instead, this way I am bringing a little bit of nature on the table without overwhelming it.

5. Do you have a small table like me? Then do as I did and keep all extra plates that you are going to use or cups or saucers next to the table on a shelf in an open composition. This way the setting feels more intimate and it is easier to change the setting after dinner is finished. I always keep the coffee set close by, Norwegians love having coffee after dinner and it is so much easier to set the new table after eating.  Pillivuyt Plissé line is so beautiful , like my table I do not like hiding it!
As a final note, Norwegians drink a lot of coffee, and I am always setting up the table with a full coffee set after dinner. But regardless if you have this tradition, a full set of coffee cups and mugs is always welcomed, whether you are serving coffee after eating, or just enjoying it in a rainy afternoon by the window. You can find more photos (including a full setting for coffee) and a stop movie of how I prepared my table at Pillivuyt today!

At home with some of my favorite essentials

Since getting a bed in the bedroom (sneak peek of the bedroom)I feel the whole apartment has finally come together, it feels much more like home now than it did when I first moved in July. I love spending time in here now, and since I have been a little bit sick last few weeks I have been working from bed much more than I would normally do. I don’t have a speaker in Oslo for my bedroom so the new portable Beoplay P2 has become my best companion ( mine is in color Sand ). It doesnt have any controls on it, but tap it twice to pause any song ( double tap again to resume ) and shake it sideways to skip a song are all the controls I need :)  It also has a microphone so when I get calls I dont even need to pick up my phone! I always take it with me when I travel too, it is lightweight and then I can listen to music or podcasts or audio books while in my hotel room, its a win win. The sound is great as well for such a small speaker, it is now firmly on my essentials list.
To make the bedroom a little cosy, I like having a candle on the windowsill next to the bed (the bedroom has two big windows), and with some books and magazines, a mirror and a lamp the scene is almost complete.

On the window you might have noticed some products, they are from the Nuori face care line, the Perfecting face oil on the left and the Supreme moisture mask on the right. If you don’t know about Nuori already, apart from their super minimalistic design, what distinguishes them from other skincare is that their products are always fresh. Mine were mixed right before they were delivered and their ingredients are 100% natural. A lot of brands claim this to be true, but Nuori actually delivers, read more about it here if you want and I promise you , you will be converted.
Last but not least my top favorite brand Aesop launched a new perfume! ( They are currently launching a new website , I will link to it as soon as it is up! ). When it comes to how it smells, you should really visit one of their stores, it is a little too masculine for me but I love how it smells on my other half :)

Simple Scandinavian Living Room Styling

Sponsored post in collaboration with Nest.co.uk
I had a little time this weekend and I finally styled my own living room a little bit, so before I start sharing photos from my trips last month I thought I would show you how the room looks like right now after a few recent additions!

Starting off with the biggest one although I recently showed it off as I assembled it on my instagram , the Menu Stick system in white. I needed a shelf system and I couldn’t decide if it should be mounted on the wall or free on the floor, but I found the Menu one on a great sale in a shop in Oslo which made my decision pretty easy. And if after a few months I need a little bit of change I can always sell it and buy something else, recycling interior pieces is something I firmly believe in, I much prefer buying something that has value that I can later sell and get something else, then start over again when I need a change.
Another two additions in the room are the Kizu Lamp from New Works and the Hay Slit table in Mirror, both of which I was lucky to have delivered on my door by Nest , one of the stores in UK that I recommend heartily to my readers from UK (and the rest of the Europe) for their great selection of brands that are on the forefront of interior design last few years. I have talked about a lot with the owners as well and we both share the same values when it comes to furniture recycling, and not only. Recently we were discussing the concept of Lagom, exactly because we both love simplicity, roughly translated from Swedish as ‘appropriately in balance’ or simply ‘Just right’.

Lagom is not an interior ‘trend’ but rather a way of living in balance, of having just the right amount of anything you need. I wrote a piece for Nest about our discussions and my thoughts on the subject that was published on their web blog , if you want to read more about Lagom and life in balance through my eyes you can find it here

Finally, when it comes to my living room , some details really set the mood and their are very easy to apply. A rather bulky plant will cover an awkward space and make the transition from a piece of furniture to a corner seamlessly (I bought my Fiddle fig tree from the flower market a week ago although I only potted it in a simple terracotta pot yesterday ) , while a simple poster on the wall will give a polished finished look. My poster is a limited edition art concept from  Therese Sennerholt ( one of Swedens most famous and most talented Art Directors) called Full Moon Doodle in grey.

I have used my Kizu lamp on one of the windowsills in my living room, but I think it will look just as nice on the Menu shelves, while the round Hay table I am temporarily using as my main table but in the future it will either be a side table or a night stand ( on my Bedroom sneak peek post I used the brass version I got temporarily from Nest, I loved it as a solution!).

For now I will leave this space as is, but I am adding some new things as October goes by, plus painting the walls, I love changes and I need warmer colors on the walls for the winter!

Bedroom Sneak Peek in Oslo

So much good response on Tuesdays post about the Thorvald Meyersgate apartment, thank you so much for all your kind words! I am so glad everyone loved this collab between me and Elisabeth Heier, we will be working on more things together so keep an eye for upcoming news!

Today I wanted to take the opportunity and talk a little bit about last few weeks, I have fallen behind on the blog due to a lot of work, travelling etc, but I promise I will make it up going forward. I feel the blog is my own personal space that nothing affects it ( instagram changing the algorithm for example ), so I feel bad I haven’t been able to find time to update it more often last month. I am not using this as an excuse but if you are following me on instagram you know I have almost not been at home at all, so now I am so happy to finally get the time to work without distractions.  For the next couple of days, I have planned to finally show you where I have been in detail ( again sneak peeks of which I have shared on my instagram along with stories so if you dont follow me there, you really should!), what has caught my eye recently (favorites, places, just about everything really), and some new additions on the blog. I dont want to reveal too much but it has to do with something a lot of people have been asking me lately, so I hope it is going to be a welcome addition!

Finally having some free time has also led to being able to organise the apartment in Oslo a little bit more. It still has way to go until it is finished, but at least I got a bed and the bedroom is now my favorite place to spend time in! So far it is very simple of course but it still has a nice vibe, and really it is not going to be filled with things anyway. I am lucky that the apartment has a walk in closet so I dont need a rail for my clothes ( although I might regardless since I have one in mind that looks great), but I might instead use the space for a small office. And paint! I didnt let the owner paint the walls since I wanted to make my own decision on what colors! Either way, it wont take me too long to make up my mind, I only rent this apartment for a year and I want to make every week count. Tip : There always going to be sneak peeks on my instagram if you cant wait for a blogpost ;)

Sunday Thoughts and Upcoming Plans

Lets just say it has been a busy August and September looks just as active. Even though I am constantly sleep deprived and my feet feel like I have been running the marathon every other day, I love it when there are so many things to do, and honestly, even when fairs and press events and travelling doesn’t take so much time in my weekly schedule, I already have plans for things that will occupy me other than work. I am quite grateful my planner was empty for this weekend though, I have managed to finally clean the house, do all my laundry and finally rest. Resting involves planning ahead, responding to emails and organizing my calendar and upcoming shoots/stylings, but it is something that I love doing, it really doesn’t feel like a job.
For now, next week involves a quick 3 day trip to Paris/ Provence until Friday noon with Pillivuyt, while Friday night and the weekend, Designers Saturday will be at full throttle in Oslo with so many brands showcasing, plus all the parties! Cant wait! However this year sadly it coincided with Maison et Objet in Paris , and with the Pillivuyt trip getting most of the time while in France I will not be attending this year.
From tomorrow I will be sharing however some of the highlights of this and the previous week , just stay tuned ;)

August Favorites

Usually every month I make a wishlist, but this month I thought I should just share some of my favorites that found their way in my apartment. First up, some goodies from Ferm Living , in the photo above spotted : a Neu mug, a small brass spoon, a brass candle extinguisher and a special chocolate I brought with me when I visited Ferm Livings new showroom The Home last week (what a fabulous dinner and company!). I will be travelling to Copenhagen again next week so I will be stopping by for some photos, but for a sneak peek and some photos from the dinner you can check Elisabeths post at Elisabeth Heier.

I am waiting for quite a few deliveries next few days but a small one arrived yesterday with just the right accessories. One of them the mirror Aura by young and talented designer Bjørn van den Berg manufactured by New Works. I got the wall version and now I am thinking I need the table version as well, for now the wall version looks perfectly at home on my windowsill.
A few days ago I realised I was missing pencils and pens, so I hopped over to Lush Dive that’s just in the neighborhood for some office supplies. I am very peculiar when it comes to pencils, I prefer writing with B, HB, or H depending on the paper , while a 2B is always great to have around for sketching. I think I got enough for a few months though!
I love a minimal speaker system and I was lucky to be gifted a new Stammen from Urban Ears. I got the Indigo Blue version and I love it. The sound is great partly because the speaker doesn’t run on battery, so all the space is used for sound. Unfortunately what makes it so great it is also its only downside, since it doesnt run on battery it is not portable at all, it needs to be close to a power socket and the wire always shows. If you can live with the downsides, it is otherwise a great sound system with powerful sound.

Last but not least, one of my favorite perfumes Santal 33 was nearing its end, but I was lucky to be gifted a Neroli 36 by Le Labo which came just in time. I dont think I can have enough of their custom made perfumes, but Santal 33 will always be my first love. Oh! I also found a marble Hay tray 70% off at a local furniture store in Sogndal right before I left, how lucky am I? It is a great solution for gathering all my face care essentials in the bathroom and it definitely deserves a place in my favorites!

IKEA’s renewable shelving system, Svalnäs

Currently at home we have become more and more concerned about the environment. I should stop here and make sure you know I am no poster child for being eco friendly! Sometimes we use plastic bottles and sometimes we buy unnecessary things and sometimes we create too much waster. However! The environment and our impact on it has moved more and more to the forefront of our mind and it slowly changing the way to make decisions. Recently I purchased a set of glass water bottles for us to reuse. They are very similar in the to the plastic disposable versions we used to drink from but now we simply wash and refill.
This has also become a dialogue we involve the kids in. Talking often about how we can do more with less and consider the impact of our choices is really good for all of us, no matter our age.

And so, we gladly welcome IKEA’s Svalnäs shelving into our home, which is made from renewable bamboo. It’s not going to single handedly save the planet but it is a step in the right direction to put our efforts and support towards material that can be easily replenished. The system is composed of shelf components of various widths and depths, a desk and drawer with recessed dividers. The entire unit is very light weight and best of all, fully cusotmizable. The tracks the shelves hang from come in differing lengths so each section can be customized vertically and horizontally.

At home this storage system is used to hold overflow kitchen items, books and a paper lamp Storuman, also from IKEA. I chose low profile shelves with a shallow depth because our funny angled wall leads into the living room and I didn’t want to obstruct the view. These can easily accommodate a single vertical sets of shelves or continue on across a very wide wall. It’s also nice to add some warmth from this Svalnäs unit to our monochrome kitchen via this adjacent wall.

*this post was created in partnership with IKEA, all words, views and photos are my own!

My Kitchen in Oslo

The kitchen in my apartment in Oslo is one of the rooms I spend most of my time in. Partly  because it is the most furnished room, but to be honest, I love working on the table. I showed a sneak peak of the kitchen here, where you can see my working spot, but I thought I would share what can be seen in the opposite direction as well. I already have a small routine after waking up, and it mostly came to be because the cooktop is not induction and since I didnt bring with me an electric water boiler, the water takes about 9-10 minutes to boil. So I wake up, turn the cooktop on, then I have a good amount of time to brush my teeth, wash my face, ( bathroom routines ) before I get dressed and head to the kitchen for a morning tea and something light to eat while I open the first emails for the day. I am not showing the whole kitchen yet on purpose , I need to paint it, then change some shelves, decide what lamps I want, then finally change the water faucet and I think probably add some plants or a board to scribble on. There are lots to do then next month and with fairs, press events and projects coming up I am wishing the day had 48 hours and not 24. I know it seems  from the photos that the kitchen hardly needs any change but the details are those that will define the space when it is a rental although I am lucky the owners are open to changes.

Temporary bedroom

I just came back to Oslo and I am trying to make myself comfortable, but I am starting to feel the absence of a furnished home already. Due to summer vacations companies have delivery dates even longer than usual and as of now most of everything I have ordered has 6 to 7 weeks delivery time. I dont want to compromise on my coffee table or on the lamps I want, I would rather live in an empty house, which is how I ended up with one of course! I dont even have a bed , another item waiting to be shipped, but at least I have made myself an impromptu bed with a futon on the bedroom floor. I will love having an actual bed, but for now just the luxury of organic cotton sheets help a lot with feeling comfortable. One of the two big windowsills works as a side table above my head for essentials, while everything else I am spreading around me on the floor. Dont feel too bad for me, I am beyond excited to be in Oslo and in my beautiful apartment, and the journey is always worth it ;)

More than a curtain, Ready Made also serves as a flexible room divider

Not long ago I talked about Kvadrat and Bouroullec’s Ready Made Curtain system. I used it in a traditional way, blocking some of the light and giving privacy to one of the front facing windows of our home.
Ready Made Curtain is not restricted however to covering windows exclusively, with the design of the tension and peg system you can also easily hang this from the ceiling to conceal an area or separate rooms.
We used another set, this time with a soft white textile to divide our open living room and dining room. One of the benefits of using a soft divider like this is that it’s temporary, slide the curtain shut to delineate a room or slide them open and share the space once more. An elegant and versatile solution that can adapt to different circumstances and simpler to use than using a folding divider.

A paper roller that’s ideal for the tiny artist

Having kids is a messy endeavor, even for those who are incredibly organized and neat freaks, often kids are naturally more untidy. It’s in their nature to explore, to experiment, to become easily distracted, thus leaving a trail of upturned and half examined objects in their wake. My kids love to draw and color but sheets of paper and strewn crayons aren’t half as simple as this wall versatile mounted roller from George & Willy. Named the Studio Roller because it can be used in commercial or private spaces for list making, sketches and notes, the smallest size also lends itself well as a vertical drawing pad for children.

If you have really small kids this might not be a great idea yet as they could very easily write on the walls however mine are just old enough that they can contain their creations to the paper. I’ve found that it also promotes less paper waste as a single sheet of paper can be discarded more easily and with this broad roll they tend to go more for a large scene that is added to over time. They recommend a piece of plexi or thin plywood fixed to the wall behind the drawn paper if you have a textured surface, but I haven’t gotten to that just yet.

My hope is that this serves as an alternate idea for parents who want to streamline some of the mess from your kids’ favorite activity without sucking any of the fun out of it.

In the kitchen

Our weekend wasn’t very eventful, unless you consider washing cabinets and drawers some kind of twisted version of excitement. And what do you do when your kitchen is feeling ultra clean and you know that with two kids under 7, it won’t remain like this for long? Take a picture, of course. Then spend the rest of the day trying to maintain its pristine condition in spite of meals and snacks for 4 people.

Also, you might remember this vintage Japanese brass spoon from the souvenirs I brought home from L.A. last month? It’s from Gjusta Goods.

Styling Windowsills

One of the things that were very high in my check list when I was looking for an apartment was high ceilings and big windows with deep windowsills. I ruled out beautiful apartments because the sills in the windows were small, it has been a struggle to find just the right space but now that I did I feel it was well worth the effort. My windowsills are big and beautiful and create the perfect spot for either an impromptu workspace or more commonly, a lamp or two, candles, books etc. Since my apartment is still quite empty, they are a lifesaver, although I dont mind just having things on the floor on stacks of magazines either. My house, my rules ;) Some of my favorites as of late, the Standard Bordelampe from Menu (it looks amazing when lit at night as well well), Ferm Living marble candleholders (they are minimal and make a statement without taking too much space) and latest magazines and kinto cups (my windowsills also work as a side table for now). There are so many ways you can take advantage of big windows and their sills, I am really looking forward to finding new opportunities this winter , not just for photos, but I have to say, I love how they look everytime I turn around or walk in the room.

Todays Office

The apartment is slowly coming together, and although there are many essentials that I need, one I was missing sorely was a kitchen table. I had several designers in mind but I ended up founding an In Between &Tradition table on Finn for a very good price which made my decision quite easy . I already had 4 In Between chairs in the same colour , and although I didn’t want to go for an all uniform look,  it turned up looking very similar to what I wanted it to look.
The whole apartment has big windows that let plenty of daylight in, but I really love working from the kitchen especially this time of the year. The kitchen is also where the balcony is at which is looking towards the small private park of the building ( the whole block is build around it), something I find quite ideal during summer with the nature bursting in. Athough it is Saturday I need to catch up with emails and work (moving has taken so much of my time this week), so you will find me here for the next couple of hours. Since I came to Oslo I have been taking more instagram stories, so for highlights of my day or my whereabouts you can always get sneak peeks there, I love sharing some Oslo love!

Hello from Oslo!

This weekend I packed everything my car could fit and drove to Oslo, this time however to stay! I finally found the most beautiful apartment a few weeks ago and from now, you can find me locally in Grünerløkka, hooray!  It is still quite empty since I brought only a few things, but thankfully the previous owner left me their couch to use until I get my own. I am also sleeping on it since I dont have a bed yet, while my duvets and pillows just arrived with the post today!  Did I mention I only have one pair of sheets and a blanket? I feel like a student again and I love it. I wanted a fresh start so I only brought with me a few select things and clothes, but now realize I might have gone too far with my minimalist plan. There are many things that will come by mail as I ordered them before I left, but they could take a few days to be here so for now, the apartment will be without plates or even cutlery for example. I should be ok, after all , sushi only needs a set of chopsticks right? The plan for the next few days is, get a table for the kitchen and a bed, while I ll need several trips to the super market to stock up on necessities. For now I am happy to set up my office on the couch, the windowsills work as side tables perfectly ;) I will be posting more updates on the blog as I settle in, but if you want sneak peeks and live updates of the apartment, just jump over my instagram and stories, for candid moments and moving tips ;)

Early Green Mornings

Ad // Sponsored post in collaboration with Ellos

Today I woke up really early ,right when the first rays of sun started hitting our small veranda. Scandinavian days are so long during this time of year, the sun is out almost at 6 in the morning. I usually start my day with water, during winter it is hot water with a little bit of lemon, while during summer I make a carafe with infused water that I keep in the fridge so it is ready whenever I want to enjoy something cool with a little bit of flavor. My favorite is really simple, just add fresh mint, some cucumber, lime and lemon slices in a carafe, fill it up with water and let it infuse for a few hours in the fridge. It coincidentally matches the all green clean white mood in my veranda as well, the look I created for this summer. It is really easy to replicate and budget friendly and it fits small verandas perfectly.
Start with painting the floors and the rails white if you can, but grey rails or black will work just as well. (I painted the veranda white last year and I barely need to wash it, it doesn’t show its dirt at all and my veranda is not covered. The paint handled snow and rain great too, no peeling ). Cafe style chairs and cafe style table match well with the mood I wanted to create, they are easy to find in any store (mine are from Ellos but check measurements first before you order as they run much smaller than the usual cafe style furniture). Add a garland of string lights ( again you can fine the exact ones at Ellos, they are suitable for outside and they also come in black color) , they give off a French country cafe feeling even during the day! For a clean green look choose all green plants , a monstera and a pilea where the plants of my choice, but mostly I just use the plants I already have in the house.
Bring out a magazine, a cup of matcha tea or infused green water and enjoy an all green clean crisp mood in the comfort of your own home ;)

I will leave you with a photo from my instagram stories earlier today, it is not the best resolution, but it gives the exact feeling of a crisp early morning, or at least how my morning was exactly! And such a beautiful warm day it turned out to be!

Styling tip : Brass trays

If you are tired of the small messes next to the bed, the bathroom or the coffee table, just gather your little things in a small/medium tray. I know its a such a simple solution, however it is the simplest solutions we tend to overlook. My tip is, choose a flower pot saucer instead of an actual tray, they tend to be very thin so it will stand out less! My favorites are the Edge brass plates from Skagerak ( in small above and medium below) , but for a less expensive solution the zinc saucers from Granit will also work just as well.

Spending time in the bedroom

Ad // Sponsored post in collaboration with Room21.no
These past few weeks of constant travelling between Norway/Denmark/Sweden has taken a little bit of a toll on me and I found myself taken with the common cold/flu, probably a bug from the airplane/airport air. I have found a new appreciation in my bedroom, having to spend all day in it for several days has added to that profoundly. This should go without saying, making the bedroom a comfortable and familiar space to be in, but since I have spend even more time here I changed my side of the bed to fit my needs.
I am sure you have seen glimpses on my instagram, I recently got 2 items from Room21.no  from their Menu selection (Menu is among just a few of the leading Scandinavian brands that can be found in Room21) , the Standard Bordlampe and the Jewelry Box in white oak. Never underestimate how useful a lamp can be next to you, no matter how many hours you spend in bed or not, this one sheds the softest light ( adjustable) , while the Jewelry box is really useful for anything you want to hide. I tend to take off all my accessories before I sleep and since my cat likes to play with everything, it is best to just hide them away. The box can be open or closed, it looks great either way, plus the clever design with the mirror makes it very versatile for quick touch ups in the morning. Danish design, you can hardly go wrong with it :)

Kvadrat’s new Ready Made Curtain is here to solve all your window covering woes

We all have windows and so if you’ve ever needed to cover them then you know well the process that can come with finding the the right fabric in the right size, and the right color. It’s not always as simple as you thought. Then there’s finding the right fixtures for hanging the curtains . Chances are you also have different sized windows throughout your space so each one might require a unique solution.

Or maybe you’ve never found this to be a struggle and have no idea what I’m talking about but from my own personal experience I have not come across an arrangement that has particularly streamlined the experience. Even if you’ve found curtains that you love with relative ease then you still need to locate something to hang them with which might be altogether unappealing or difficult to install. To confess, I usually make my husband deal with the installation part because I can’t be bothered with it all. The options available are usually less than thrilling and it becomes one of those obligatory but unattractive components of your home that serves a function but offers little more than that.

Bouroullec and Kvadrat Textiles have joined creative forces to solve some of the issues that can come along with window dressing and created the Ready Made Curtain. When I was initially introduced to this product my enthusiasm did not need any additional persuasion. A minimal and attractive anchor and tethered string that can fit various sized windows that can be customized in multiple colors including the string, the pegs and of course Kvadrat produced fabric?! Count me in!

Once you install the pegs the cord can be fed through the center support and then then tightened to prevent bowing in the middle. Before you attach the other end of the cord however, slide the white pegs on to later hang the fabric with. After that you only need to snap the fabric onto the pegs. One of the visual benefits of using this peg system rather than say, a pocketed top that slides over a metal rod, is that there is a continuous and uninterrupted line of fabric from bottom to top.

If you’re looking for new curtains, want to change the look of your windows, or are even looking for a clever space divider, this Ready Made Curtain is a thoughtfully designed solution that might make the process a whole lot simpler while also making it more attractive!

Simple frame styling with Desenio and a 25% discount code.

Ad // Sponsored post in collaboration with Desenio.no

As I am packing to move in a few weeks I am constantly wondering what to take with me and how I will style the new apartment. Since it is a rental there are some restrictions although instead of being bothered by it I think it is actually quite fun to find solutions to work around any styling problems. One of the most common is hanging anything on the walls, but while some cannot be helped ( big furniture etc ) , some can have interesting solutions instead! When it comes to frames thankfully they look great on the floor just as much as on the wall, if anything I think I prefer them this way at this point.
With the help of Desenio and their great variety of posters and frames I think I am off to a good start on making a nice little frame corner don’t you think? I started with a few frames and few foggy botanical posters and I will be adding more of this collection soon, I find the bigger this frame arrangement the better it looks.

A small tip for you : Leave a few of the frames empty, it makes for a more delicate arrangement while at the same time it doesn’t look overly styled!

The frames I used are from Moebe and they can also be found at Desenio under their Frames category. When it comes to botanical posters they can all be found under the Botanical category . My top picks and the ones I chose as shown in this post are :

1 | Misty Poster  2 | Palm Silhouette  3 | Foggy Poster

As a bonus I am happy to share a code with all of you that Desenio created for all my readers. Use  code “ONLYDECOLOVE” for 25% off your order at Desenio between 6th – 8th of June ( not valid for handpicked/frames ). Since the code is active for only two days this is the best time to to update your photo wall, or if you prefer my way, create a new frame corner in your living room or bedroom or even at the office!

What’s really going on with all that white bedding?

If you’ve been following my blog for any real length of time then you know I like to change the look of my bedding. We’ve been through colors in black, greys, variations of taupe and white, both linen and cotton fabrics. At times I’ve swapped out pillow covers and throws in the winter time made of wool and knit, then in the summer time removing those extra layers. It’s simple to give the bedroom a big visual change in look and feel by temporarily replacing the duvet cover, sheets, pillow covers and blankets. Through the various seasonal changes a full white set of bedding has always been a staple for me – whether to mix in with other colors or to completely white out our bed.

In some ways I think this is true for many of us, somewhere in the rotation we have a reliable white cotton bedsheets that we continually come back to. We love the look of it in photos and on Instagram, bright and ethereal billowing blankets and cushions of white. Upon closer inspection, however, and without the magic of photo editing we probably all know one truth, white bedding shows everything! The drawback of such light textiles is that every smudge, every smear, every time we accidentally slept with make up on is going to show up on your sheets. Since I have two young kids, a cat and a husband, there are definitely spots on our bedding that you typically won’t see me sharing online.

Here – what I’m sharing with you are some spots made by my youngest who was coloring with her markers. Both of the kids know better than to write on anything besides paper or coloring books because thankfully we’re now past that artist wall-drawing toddler stage. However with two markers in her hand, Elin leaned on the bed and that’s all it took. This is not the worst of the stains I’ve seen at our house, in fact just earlier this week our oldest was sick and vomited several times over the course of two nights. Let’s just say our washing machine has had quite the work load recently.

Though white may show stains easier than colors or patterns I’ve always kept it as a staple in the house because even some of the toughest stains can come out with a bit of detergent and bleach. I’ve mercilessly bleached out all sorts of things from our white cotton towels and sheets that I wouldn’t try with colored or printed bedding.

Thanks to my partners Clorox and Cotton incorporated who encouraged me to share this Reality Check and talk about what’s really going on with our white bedding. Despite the reality and mess of life along with the inevitable stains and spots that we will no doubt see again, with a bit of work and plenty of bleach, white bedding will continue to be a staple basic in our house for years to come. In case you didn’t know, by choosing non-synthetic fibers, and soft durable fabrics such as cotton, I have a sensible choice to fight odors, remove my kids stains and ideal breathable fabric for warm weather. Also, by adding a bacteria-killing agent like Clorox®-Regular-Bleach to your laundry can help sanitize smelly, stain filled clothing, I am able to kill 99.9% of bacteria, which causes odor.

Despite the reality and mess of life along with the inevitable stains and spots that we will no doubt see again, with a bit of work and plenty of bleach, white cotton bedding will continue to be a staple basic in our house for years to come.
Also, check out this fun video they made to illustrate the benefits of bleach for your cotton whites.

*Do you need a reality check? To extend the challenge to you, we have a giveaway for a Clorox + Cotton Incorporated prize pack, including bleach products and a gift certificate to a cotton-friendly retailer. Guest bathroom organization tips and tricks

Ad // Sponsored post in collaboration with Room21.no

When it comes to having guests in the house, I always try to make them feel at home. I find that a few touches can be really thoughtful and welcoming, just what your friend needs when they visit. I have a few tips and tricks to share that work well plus they give a personal touch!

:: Think outside the “box” | The Jewelry Box in ash by Menu ( can be found at Room21.no ) can serve as more than just an organizer for jewelry , here I fill it with cotton pads, a travel size hand cream, some cotton swabs, anything that my guest would want to have in the bathroom for their day-night routine care. The box is very versatile since its lid also has a mirror in one side that can conveniently be propped up, while when it closes the top part can be used for a space to lay your watch or rings before sleep, so they can be easily found next day in the morning.
:: Use your travel sized goodies | Something else I always do, is leave travel sized essentials from my favorite brands for my guests to use. This way they get to try my most loved products without having to have an extra full size, plus I can always refill them easily and take them with me when I travel!
:: Mini soaps trick | I always get one of the small soaps when I visit hotels from the bathroom. I love bringing them back and using them, they remind me of the time I spend while on holidays , the smell just brings me back. With my traveling however they tend to accumulate so, I find that filling a jar or a vase with mini soaps (check last photo) not only is useful but it looks quite nice as well! Plus all the hotels tend to have great brands, my vase is filled with Diptyque, Aesop, Penhaligon’s etc Whats not to love when it comes to having such variety?

Calm moments in the living room

I have been back from Zurich a couple of days now and I am especially enjoying sitting in the living room. Some new books, some new items , spring feeling and some rays of sun, everything makes for an atmosphere that I especially enjoy being apart of,  so this is where I can be found with my macbook working the week away. I needed some rest from travelling I think, because I have hardly ventured out of the house other than to shop and visit family. It feels good to be able to relax with a cup of tea and finally focus on everything that needed my attention, in fact I have gotten more work done this week than any other, right at this spot. The next few days are filled with photoshoots and stylings, I really can’t wait to show you some of the things I have been working on but also a new and exciting project I have just started creating! But before I go, happy 17th of May Norway! Gratulerer med dagen !

Sunday tips

Ad // Sponsored post in collaboration with Stelton.
I love having some flowers in the house, I am not a big bouquet kind of person but a few select blooms always lift up my mood. Today I took a short walk outside and discovered a small bed of wild poppies, they are so beautiful even when not in full bloom! I selected a variation of them (some with closed some with bloomed buds) so they would look even more delicate in the vase by the bed. And here is my tip of the day which I am sure you saw coming, when spring is in the air, always try to venture out in case you find a hidden flower bed, wild flowers are so much more beautiful in my eyes than any other flowers! And much more economical as well ;)
For the vase I chose the new Concave Vase from Stelton ( mine is in size medium) designed by Søren Refsgaard. I really like how the powder coated aluminum body contrasts with the polished steel ring top, I have been using mine just as decoration without any flowers in the last few weeks, it looks great with or without blooms!

The other new addition in the bedroom is the carafe I am currently using (always have water by the bed) also from Stelton and it is their new Emma serving Jug 2l along with their Simply Glass glasses in grey. The Emma pitcher combines stainless steel and a beach wood handle for a contemporary look, while the glasses are in minimalistic design with the gray shade elevating them from the ordinary. You can see them also in my kitchen here , I will move the pitcher around the house during the day, as for the glasses, it is always good to have more than 12 as a set so there are always extra when you need them!

Fresh starts and memories

As my move to Oslo draws closer and closer and I am starting to organize what I will be bringing with me , I can’t help but also think of what I will be leaving behind. The house I live in, although far from perfect, it has been my home for the last few years and I have had many good memories here. The room I will miss the most however is definitely the bedroom. I am sure I will make a cozy nook in my new apartment however I doubt it will be better than this newly renovated one. Even on a cleaning day (photo below), this space has so much character and charm, but instead of feeling sad for leaving it I will focus on feeling excited for a fresh start! The bedroom doesn’t have a lot of furniture so by default I will not be taking too much with me (something I am thankful for), but I will probably need some sort of extra storage space, something to think about in the future though. I am sharing some photos today of some of my favorite nooks from my bedroom, scroll down for more!
In other news, I am travelling to Zurich tomorrow in a surprise destination, so this is a good time to be checking on my instagram stories, as I am always updating them often when traveling! I wont reveal too much here,  I think since this is not a trip for a fair , some mystery will be nice! See you on my stories!

A Bedside Lamp With A Difference

I used the bank holiday weekend to do some DIY in the house; a little project I’d been planning for a while, to convert a pendant lamp into a bedside lamp.

Saturday scene

Our Saturday has been subjected to the usual routine of laundry and relaxing but we I also fit in a quick workout with the kids before nap time. Later tonight we’re taking them to see a movie and a walk in the park.

I realize this photo doesn’t depict any of what I just described but the Hellebore was cut form my garden and I feel particularly proud to be able to grow this beautiful dark variation of one of my favorite flowers.

A bedding favorite, for kids

At home sometimes it can be challenging to find the right balance. I’m not talking school schedules or work or things like that, I’m talking about in your personal home design. Achieving that right combination of things, colors, textures, and placement…

Kovac Family’s 25Lamp

Recent styling work I did for Kovac Family and their wonderful 25Lamp. It comes flat packed and you only need to gently pull the sections apart to create this shape. They’re coming out with some new products soon so stay tuned for that as well!

How’s It Hanging?

A home never feels quite finished without artwork on the walls, like the books on your shelves, there’s something so personal about what you hang on your walls, and what it says about you.

Styling with Corals

Ad // Sponsored post in collaboration with Ellos.
Some items have the ability to create calm vibes in your environment, and being from Greece I have always kept corals around me for styling for exactly this reason. Whether they have healing abilities as many believe it is not for me to say, however I find that their petrified softness gives me peace of mind when I glance towards their direction especially when going through tough times. Corals can be placed almost anywhere in the house, on the living room table on top a stack of magazines, by the bedside under the windowsill, even in the bathroom near the sink. Today I am sharing some of my favorite spots to place a coral in the home.  If they are native to your country then a walk on the beach on a warm afternoon is all you need, but if they aren’t, I have found a nice selection at Ellos Home. The small one as seen in the photos is the Dekor Korall hight 10 cm while there is a bigger one as well the Korall Serlina as seen here. Up until the 4th of April you can also get 25% of your whole purchase from Ellos, always a good way to get something that has been in your wishlist for a long time!

New additions : Muuto Ripple Throw

While at Stockholm Furniture and Light fair, one of my highlights was the Muuto stand. I experienced first hand some of my favorites from the new designs : The Outline chair by Anderssen & Voll , the new Ripple throw by Margrethe Odgaard and the beautiful new Workshop chair by Cecilie Manz . I think I jumped for joy when I opened the door today to find out I had a Muuto delivery that contained one of the Ripple throws in a beautiful auburn brown color. The fabric is quite unique, it looks monochrome at a quick glance from far away however, as one gets closer all the beautiful intricate details are revealed in its textured form. It is just the right amount of color for my bedroom as well, a perfect companion to the rest of the colors.

Bathroom tips

Ad // Sponsored post in collaboration with ByLassen.

I just came back from Oslo yesterday and I am already dreaming about a new bathroom in the city. While in Oslo I managed to sneak in visiting some potential apartments, some with bigger or smaller bathrooms. Generally it is quite hard to find a big bathroom in the city, storage is always something to think about. Organizing some of my things in trays or boxes is my go to solution, with or without their lids. Today I chose some of By Lassen’s range of Frame accessories to round up few of my beauty essentials, while I also decided to put some of the smaller bottles on the window, I think they look perfect right there! The Frames come in 3 sizes and different color combinations, for my bathroom I chose the Frame 14 in the new dark blue color and the Frame 20 in smoked oak to store bigger items. And if they don’t fit in my new bathroom, I will just move them in the living room or the bedroom for storage!

Rethinking light switches and outlets covers

Light switches, dimmers and outlets are those parts of a home easily overlooked yet relied on everyday. How many times during the day do you plug in an item or flip a switch without giving much (if any at all) consideration to the covers themselves? Ad…

Beige in the Bedroom : Early Spring signs

Ad // Sponsored post in collaboration with Ellos. All opinions are my own.
As the weather continues to surprise us every day, from intense snowing to intense sunlight and warmth after just a few hours, I can’t help but dream of spring. While for most people spring translates to bright yellows, greens and pinks, to me all the exploding colors of the nature outside are enough, which is why I chose to bring spring inside my bedroom with various tones of beige, a color that to me represents tranquility and mindfulness.  In other words, perfect combination for the bedroom! I like to change my pillows often but when it comes to the fabric, I almost always stick to linen. I have had my eye on a particular design of pillowcases on Ellos Home for some time now and when they arrived on Friday I was so glad to see they fit with my plan perfectly. The pillowcases Putevar Candra in washed linen come in many different combinations, but I chose a plain white/silver so it would pop out against with my beige duvet covers and the rest the pillows. As the weather gets warmer I find that linen is perfect to sleep on, so all my bed covers are in linen as well by choice. My duvet covers are the Sengesett Candice in washed linen  (color beige), while the ice blue/white blanket is the Pledd Hannelin in washed linen (color grey-blue) also from Ellos home. And with this change of color, I am happy until summer!

Our bedroom now has a nice, comfortable place to sit. I’d like to call it my reading corner but we all know it’s really just my laptop/blogging corner. This Neva chair from Sixpenny is filled with down and covered in a natural linen, finished with fre…
