TOP SHOPPING DESTINATIONS IN LONDON

WEARING: M-A Turtleneck, Asos Leather Jacket, C/meo Tank, J-Brand Jeans, M-A Mini Link Earrings & M-A Half Circle Bracelet.

London has several distinct shopping streets and areas, many of which have their own themes and niches. Shopping in London is exciting and varied, from luxury to independent designers, famous department stores to street markets. You can easily spend hours or the whole day browsing.

I hope this list helps you next time you are travelling to London, I had the best time and spent many afternoons walking through these neighbourhoods and shops. I look forward to the day that some of those shops can carry my brand M-A too ;) If you like to support and shop independent designers please have a look at my new collections for clothing and jewelry here.

Here is the best areas to shop in London:

Carnaby Street
In the 60’s Carnaby street was the place for fashion and culture. Now it features more than 150 brands, 50 independent restaurants and bars, it is located between Oxford Street and Regent Street. It has an intriguing mix of independent boutiques and heritage brands.
Oxford Street
Said to be the heart of London shopping, it has more than 300 shops, designer outlets and is home to the legendary Selfridges. It is always busy and bustling with people, you can check the latest trends and high street shops like Topshop and Zara.
Covent Garden
Whittier you want hip fashion, unique gifts Covent Garden is the place to explore. Stock up with original works from independent designers and crafters you can find anything from jewellery to bags, flowers, sweets and you will get a true taste of London’s most distinctive shopping area. And did I mention everyone there is looking so good, I felt like i was attending a street fashion show!
Bond Street and Mayfair
Whether you want to spoil yourself on the very best high end designers or just love window shopping for inspiration and beauty, Bond street and Mayfair are ideal places for some luxury retail therapy. Here you can find Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Tiffany and Chanel to name a few. Many iconic stores.

Dover Street Market
It was created by the artist Rei Kawakubo, it primarily sells Comme des Garçons but you can find stylish high-end designers like Celine, Balenciaga, Chloe, and it has the famous Rose Bakery Cafe for you to enjoy a treat while you shop. This store is a dream to be in if you love to see an impeccable retail space, with so much beauty and creativity together, Dover Street Market is for you. If you can’t dish out the cash it requires, you can go in and window shop for some beauty and style inspiration. I highly recommend it.

Notting Hill
This area offers a vast array of small, unique shops, selling different and vintage clothing, antiques, quirky items, books and tons of organic goodies. The famous Portobello Market is located here, and nearby you can find hip cafes and art galleries.

THE BENEFITS OF WALKING

WEARING: Nike Sweater, Leggings + Sneakers & TNA Cap.

I used to be a very active person, but I got side tracked and have been living a pretty sedentary life. The gym is not for me and I am too busy to enrol and commit to a team sport. I decided the best solution to my dilemma was just a walk away – literally. Walking has all kinds of benefits: from weight loss and de-stressing, to lowering your blood pressure and reducing your risk of many diseases. Going for regular walks is one of the best and easiest things you can do for your health.

1. Mood Improvement:
You know how sometimes it takes a glass of wine or three to take the edge of a rough day? Well, going for a walk is another strategy with the same benefits. Research shows that regular walking actually modifies your nervous system so much, that you’ll experience a decrease in anger and hostility. I mean you don’t have to fully give up on the wine, but you don’t need to depend on it to relax either.

2. Increase of Creativity: Whether you’re feeling down at work or you’ve been searching for a solution to a problem, it’s good idea to get moving. Going for a walk can spark creativity and give you the energy to accomplish your new ideas.

3. Your pants will get a little looser: As you continue to walk, you may notice your pants begin to fit more loosely around your midsection, even if the number on the scale hasn’t changed. Daily walking increases metabolism by burning extra calories and by preventing muscle loss, which is important as we get older.

4. Efficient Body Function:  Walking helps to push blood back up to the heart and lungs, strengthens the circulatory system, and boosts healthy blood flow.

5. Reachable Goals: When you become a regular walker, you will have established a regular routine and when you have one, you are more likely to continue with the activity and take on new healthy behaviours.

6. Time to Think:
When we walk, we think; and because walking is a low-difficulty endeavour we can direct our energy to solving problems, coming up with ideas, plans, and just daydream.
7. Chance to Meditate:
Meditation is a hard concept for many; we know about it, but we don’t know it. Even when we want to try it, having read about the benefits, most of us can’t sit still for: ten, twenty, thirty minutes at a time. Enter walking meditation, let your mind tune out from all your thoughts and be calm.

I have taken up walking as my form of exercise, and really started this year in January; I walk 3-4 days a week – at least an hour each time. I got a treadmill as a Christmas gift, so if it is raining or too cold, I still can do it; if it’s nice out I can be outside and get some fresh air. I have seen a lot of improvement in my mood, I am sleeping a bit better and I am hoping to learn to meditate while I walk. I have a really hard time sitting or staying still for too long, and of course like most fashion girls I also want the jeans to get a lil looser ;)

Walking is so simple, we know it has health benefits. So why not just do it? I recommend it! As you start your walking routine, remember to:

Get the right gear. Choose shoes with proper arch support, a firm heel and thick flexible soles to cushion your feet and absorb shock. Wear comfortable clothes and gear, appropriate for various types of weather. If you walk outdoors when it’s dark, wear bright colors or reflective tape for visibility.

Choose your course carefully. If you’ll be walking outdoors, avoid paths with cracked sidewalks, potholes, low-hanging limbs or uneven turf.

Warm up. Walk slowly for five to 10 minutes to warm up your muscles and prepare your body for exercise.

Cool down. At the end of your walk, walk slowly for five to 10 minutes to help your muscles cool down.

Stretch. After you cool down, gently stretch your muscles.

Let me know in the comments below what you do to keep active and if you are a fellow walker!

TAKING A BREAK

All photos taken with iPhone 6 for my Instagram.

Between manically figuring out what needs to be done before the website launch and surviving the winter blues I started realizing that taking a break is always good – though it really doesn’t seem so when the pressure is on. Don’t feel guilty that there is still things to get done (there will always be something).

All you need in a stressful day – week – month is to take a break. If you are lucky, you can go on a vacation or a weekend away; most of us only have a day or literally a chance for a 15 minute break. For those who can’t just take a vacation, I recommend you put aside time for yourself if possible everyday or at least once a week to relax. Reading, listening to something you are interested in, writing down thoughts and feelings in a journal are easy ways to keep stress levels down. Above all breathing and being conscious of your breath. A good candle and aroma therapy helps to relax as well. All of these small habits will make you feel refreshed and ready to take on another day and week. This way, hopefully you won’t grow exhausted, overwhelmed or overworked. I do all the above and I am working on my breath awareness. What are your tricks to deal with being busy or stressed?

CHUNKY KNITS

WEARING: THPSHOP Knit, Coach Sweater, APC Half Moon Bag, Dior Sunglasses & Spanx Faux Leather Leggings.

Whenever I talk about starting afresh, going back to basics, I always end up in black jeans, tees, leather jackets, and sneakers or black boots. Some may find it boring, not me. I’ve come to realize you should always dress for yourself and do whatever makes you feel confident.

Now and then you can mix things up, choose something that will pop against your all black outfit; this is where shades of different colours or textures come in to play. Here I am experimenting with new silhouettes, mixing colours, textures & layering to survive the cold weather. Thanks to this chunky knit by THPShop I can stay warm & stylish at the same time.

HOW TO MIX STRIPES & PRINTS

WEARING: Mango Coat, Acne Pants, Adidas Sneakers, Galisfly Rings & MalibuCali Alfie Bag.

It doesn’t take a fashion expert to master the art of mixing and matching. Once you learn a few simple tricks of the trade, you’ll be pairing patterns like any blogger in no time. It’s easier than it looks. Once you have these easy tips down, don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns. Some of the best combinations happen when you least expect.

1. Use the Law of Attraction:

Graphic prints always play well together. Stripes need not be worn exclusively in one direction. So forget everything you’ve been told and get creative. In my case I worn vertical stripes with a graphic print on my sweater. The simpler and more graphic the prints, the easir they are to mix, the same print in different sizes will pair well together regardless of colour scheme.

2. Break Up The Look With Solids:

You can go for matching the palette and not the pattern.  You can layer in some solid-colored clothes and accessories to make the mitch and match seem less loud. If the colours look good together, more often than not the patterns will too. Here I paired black, navy and off white together to keep my outfit somewhat subdue but still playing with the stripes and geometric print.

3. Have fun:

If print on print and colours are your gem, go for it, have fun. Mix stripes, flower and geometric prints, because the best thing in life is breaking rules. Do you! Let me know in the comments how you mix and match stripes and prints, I would love to hear it.

ADROGYNEOUS

WEARING: Splendid Cashmere Sweater, Melissa Araujo Diana LS Top, Acne Studios Trousers, Cluse Watch, Dior Sunglasses and Vans Old Skool Sneakers

You can blame it on having been raised with two brothers, surrounded by skate and surfer friends; but I have always had a pre-disposition to feel my best while wearing androgynous pieces and sneakers. This was very much to my mother’s disappointment, who despite her best efforts (think pink and flower pattern everything) was not able to influence me to change.
I was one of the few girls to have boys as homies and to be part of their “boys club” at an early age. I was also the girl who loved sports, competition and some adventure. That meant you needed to be able to move around comfortably and not to be afraid to get a little dirty; sometimes I wonder how I got a career in fashion. Now and then I will put on a dress and heels, regardless of what you normally wear, there is always a time to play dress up.

NEW YEAR: MIDFULNESS

I hope that you have had a great start to the new year! I decided not to do a list of resolutions for 2016, instead I want to work on my mindfulness. Maintaining an awareness of my thoughts, feelings, sensations and surroundings; being more present and worrying less. Having a less cluttered, focused mind tends to provide more room for structured thought, and to be open to opportunities. I want to try and not sweat the small stuff, navigate stressful situations more gracefully; being aware of solutions rather than focusing on frustrations and doubts. In today’s busy lifestyle, finding mindfulness is a goal worth having and returning to a more centred self can only be helpful. These photos were taken with my iPhone 6, my last trip of 2015. I went to the mountains to enjoy nature and to do something outside my comfort zone. Here is to a mindful year ahead and to the courage of trying new things!
