8 metallic candle holders

I’m finding it hard to adjust to the seasons, mostly just for the lack of light. The evening comes much sooner now and doing homework with the kids and making dinner when the sky is black, I’m feeling slow to adjust to it all. One of the best remedies to the dark months are those cozy elements that we really don’t need in the summer. The fireplace, a warm blanket, wool socks, and of course (and most importantly) candle light! That’s why I’ve gathered 8 of my favorite Scandinavian candle holders, along with a few others down below. Candle light can carry you through otherwise bleak and dark weather to make the most of this time by creating a cozy and inviting environment!

A home in rust, clay and aubergine

A stunning apartment accurately styled for the season in strokes of rust, clay and deep aubergine for Fantastic Frank. Even the bathroom has warm pinks and plums to vibe with the accessories around the rest of the house. I love how autumnal the styling in this place feels especially since the weather currently seems to be skipping over Fall and heading straight into Winter. Six months of Autumn wouldn’t be enough, I love this in subtle season, when it actually feels subtle.

A/W Interior Inspiration

Where we live the temperature has dropped from hot summer digits to cold autumn days. Within a week we’ve gone from short and thank top wears to knitted sweaters and jackets. I for one am LOVING it and the change in weather has me thinking so much of Autumn and finding that cosy feeling at home. There’s always a slight shift that the house makes as the seasons change. I suppose if we lived in a climate where it was warm all year round, the house would remain virtually the same. But here we experience all four seasons and so our space adjusts with them.

These images styled by Kristen Visdal and photographed by Margaret M. de Lange for Oslo Design Fair capture that feeling leading into Fall. Chestnut brown with black, shiny gold with soft burnt orange and shades or grey accented by deep mustard colors.

Autumn trend / Formex

IKEA’s projections for Autumn’s Formex event are centered around “Nordic Space”. This theme is meant to defy the darkness of the approaching months by using natural and durable materials, contrasted by textured and shiny surfaces. As people will soon tend to spend more and more time indoors, the home becomes our place to retreat and reload. Creating areas of softness with pillows and other textiles the body can get comfortable while the brain takes a break. By pulling together natural colors like clay and sand, a warm yet monochrome atmosphere appears to complement the high shine of metal or glossy accessories and the sleekness of home technologies.

MAKE / warm Autumn toast with

Mmm, chanterelle mushrooms! These came home with me during one of my recent trips to the market though I had no initial plan for them because with mushrooms, when all else fails you can just cook them in butter. Though that is true for a lot of other foods too!
I wasn’t always fond of mushrooms, in fact it hasn’t been until the last few years that I’ve grown a fondness for them. If you’re vegan they’re like nature’s meat, savory with a hint of wildness and each variety with it’s own distinct flavor, shape and color.
So, now that the weather is colder I thought this would be the perfect time to enjoy these on warm toast as the perfect Autumn snack. I searched Pinterest for recipes and found only a lovely photo, no instructions, with cambozola and chanterelles with pear. To me that trio is the perfect gathering of autumn colors and flavors, a little sweet and a little buttery.

Toast some sourdough bread, brush with a little olive oil or fig preserves then top with sliced pears and a generous slice of cambozola. The sautéed mushrooms go right on top that to allow the heat from the mushrooms to melt the soft cheese quickly.

If you give it a try post a picture and tag me, I’d love to see!

Effortless Autumn Essentials

Sorry, I know I go on about the weather quite a bit, I’m already missing the summer sun but that doesn’t mean I’m not excited about autumn. Chillier days call for cosy knits, a new coat and the replacement of some wardrobe essentials, like a good pair of black trousers or a simple blue shirt. I’ve called […]
