February cravings / 7 items for yourself and your home

This was only hours away from being a last ditch effort at a “January cravings” and yet the whole first month of the year went by without sharing a wishlist. How is January even over? How is 2017 even over? It will never cease to boggle my mind how tim…

3 back to school outfits

*This post is sponsored by Kohl’s.

When I was a child the month of August was such a cocktail of emotions, most of which were some sort of excitement and anticipation. One of the task that took the edge off of my nerves was buying all my needed school supplies. I’d choose coordinating binder and folder colors. pencil boxes and cherished that brand new box of unused crayons. Even more though I looked forward to new clothes! My mom would often buy me a few complete outfits rather than interchangeable pieces. Picking out what I’d wear back for the first week at school made me feel so special and gave became one things I could expect during a week of firsts in a new grade level.

Now that I’m a mom with a school aged child, which is still hard such a funny thing to hear myself say, I look forward to giving my son a similar experience. It might not seem significant to us as the parents but for our child, coming home with those new supplies and clothes gives them a boost of confidence to start this new journey.

Kohl’s asked me to partner with them to show a few back to school outfits which fits in perfectly with August preparation plans. While my son typically could not care less about what he wears, getting something new and comfortable still makes him feel special. With his help we chose a more sporty outfit with Nike shorts , Converse shoes, a moisture wicking tee and base layer pants.
He also help me choose a comfy, casual outfit composed of striped rolled cuff shorts, a raglan tee and Adidas shoes. The last outfit was more autumn appropriate with a striped tee, stretch cotton pants and the same Converse shoes we used previously.

Beyond comfort we also like to keep his outfits pretty neutral and monochrome as well as spanning multiple seasons. This just simplifies the process of mixing articles of clothing, unlike the pre-made outfits of my youth. Hopefully this also saves bit of time in the morning when it’s always a little chaotic to get out of the door on time.

Positive Stripes

I love a bright sunny day in winter, it perks me up even if it does have me wrapping up. The clothes I wear can have as much of a positive affect on me and my mood as the weather does.

workout gear basics / Reebok x FACE Stockholm

This week I tried hot yoga for the first time. It was brutal. I was a panting, slippery mess and the last 30 minutes my head was consumed with the thought of running out the room doors, down the stairs and to my care never to return again! I resisted though and endured until the bitter, sweaty, HOT end with not much more than a soaked towel, empty water bottle and blotchy red face to show for it.
After about 10 minutes though I started to feel pretty good and I’m going again (can you believe it?!) later this week.
I decided to try hot yoga after because I feel like I’ve plateaued. After having the kids and going through some rough personal things, I really packed on the pounds and haven’t felt at all like myself as a result. In January I started attending hour long interval training classes with 30 mins of cardio combined with 30 mins of strength training. I love it! It’s a one-stop-shop for the total body and I leave feeling exhausted but invigorated. Sadly though, after 6 months of these classes 3-4 times a week I’m just not seeing the progress I want. Not one to give up on the goal I have of resembling my post baby self I decided to try incorporating yoga one or twice a week. It’s too soon to report on any progress but if it goes well I’ll let you know.

When I’m really lacking in motivation to go I try to envision the way I want to look and feel, strong and healthy and lean. On bad days though, or weak days, I need something more and nothing motivates me like new workout gear (hello white yoga mat)! Nothing. So I treated myself to new shoes (which I actually really needed) which are a result of a Reebok & FACE Stockholm collaboration. They are in the faintest mint color with a sort of retro shape and I think I’m going to wear them around even when I don’t intend to work out.

I keep it very simple when I workout with a hair elastic and water bottle and sometimes my Nike Fuel + band. I also don’t wear any make up but I hate dry lips so I always, ALWAYS smear a bit of this La Bruket coconut oil lip balm on my lips. It’s so nourishing and light and smells wonderful. You can see it’s been well use as I’ve rubbed most of the label off now. Also these invisibobble hair fasteners work really well with my long wavy hair and don’t slip out mid run, which is actually a big deal for me.
Hopefully this will give you some good ideas for workout essentials which will in turn give you more motivation to power through your workouts!

acid tank/dress

Feeling androgynous this summer in extra basic super white sneakers and athletic socks. Taking a step even further […]

PERSONAL / IT’S A….

It’s a…. BOY! I actually already know since I was 15 weeks pregnant. haha. Patience is not my middle name. It’s still a little surreal that there is a little boy growing inside of me. These cool Nike roshe run sneakers were my gift to my boyfriend right after the ultrasound. I bought a girl version (navy with pink!) and this boy version. One wrapped in pink paper and the other in blue. Well, it’s obvious which one he received. I just couldn’t help myself buying already something for the baby since we didn’t buy anything until we knew the gender. (We’re just not in to unisex clothing for baby’s I guess) After that hell broke loose and we did some major shopping sessions. Will share the baby room and the wardrobe soon! PS: The Cola bottles were a little gift from my sister <3
