holiday glitz : Astrid & Miyu

Jewelry is one thing I only recently got into. I’ve had my ears pierced since 5th grade but didn’t regularly wear earrings until about a year ago. Now I usually have a few pairs that I just leave in. The holidays however, are the best excuse to play with sparkly things I normally would shy away from. Enter, London based Astrid & Miyu. They’ve created the ultimate line of minimal jewelry at super affordable prices so you can play without a crazy investment. Tons of great options under 50 bucks! I’ve been really into hoops lately and tried the “Golden Hour Hoops” and they’ve become my new evening go-to. Minimal and chic with just a little bling bling. I also doubled them up with the “Perfect One” hoops which are the cutest mini hoops, rightfully named. Click through to see how I styled my Astrid & Miyu picks and shop the collection.

off duty with adidas nmd

Comfort and style is at the core of my personal dressing. Sneakers, along with the rise of “athleisure” dressing, have become a fundamental part of everyday style. When adidas reached out about putting my spin on styling the NMD shoe, I was all in…

blush tones

Sometimes it’s just one of those days when you wear your tee backwards and a shirt dress as a jacket. There are no rules, so why the hell not?! Like the rest of the fashion world, blush is definitely having a moment and I’m all about it. But I don’t fuck with just any shade of beige-y pink. Grandma nude nails have been my go-to for a minute. Not too nude, not too white, not too barbie pink. Blush. This tee from my favorite new brand Lacausa, is the ever-elusive shade of blush I’ve been searching for. It’s perfect and can be worn backwards with a low back (like in these pics) or with a deep scoop front layered over a lacey cami or cute bralette. Even though it’s warming up in LA, once the sun dips down you need a little somethin somethin to cover up. I opted for wearing this super soft lacausa shirtdress, open as a jacket. Paired with the coolest printed ankle booties for a little pop of edge and to lessen the norm core vibes. Hashtag spring ready

#blancstate

I think Spring is the best time of the year to hit refresh. The craziness of the holidays are far behind as is the #newyearnewme pressure. A Spring “cleanse” should cover all aspects of your life. Maybe you finally try that hot yoga studio and cut nightly dessert to weekends only (the struggle on this one is real, let me tell you.) Or maybe you clean out your drawers (aka where you throw all your junk mail) and organize your desk. Take the cleanse-mentality to your wardrobe and donate anything you haven’t worn in the past 6 months (let’s be honest, you probably won’t ever wear it.) A few weekends ago I headed out to Death Valley with the J Brand & Elsewhere team to shoot Spring looks around the idea of wearing white as a palette cleanser. I already love dressing monochromatically (hellooooo all black) but was surprised by how fresh and cool-girl white on white looked.  Click through to check out more photos from the shoot and links to shop the pieces.

rip la winter

Although I’m not really a dress girl…they’re just so goddamn easy when you’re feeling lazy (and managed to shave your legs…or not.) I paired this simple shirtdress with my favorite belt of the moment, bare legs, ruffle socks and ankle boots. I’ve also been wearing my hair in this messy-when was the last time I washed my hair-low bun/pony hybrid and love how it easily dresses down an otherwise chic outfit. Belts have quickly become my new obsession. Hella versatile and an easy way to elevate basics. I tied mine in a knot over this dress to add some cool-but not that cool vibes. What are your thoughts on shirtdresses? How would YOU wear this?

I’ve recently become extremely uninspired by the carbon copies bloggers seem to have become. I feel like everyone I follow on instagram posts exactly the same. Fucking. Things. So I’m trying something new. One studio shoot per month with a kick ass team. Fully styled looks and an editorial feel. Posting with purpose and steering clear of my former super minimal aesthetic that has since consumed the internet. I mean…I have been doing the whole white wall thing for 4 years now, just sayin. I still love basics, denim, black and white and will for sure stick to those…just elevating my content and giving it my own twist. Quality over quantity. No posting just to post. As someone who calls themselves a creative director…it’s time to give my content vision. Annnnnd action. Look one for this month: tackling how to repurpose that skinny neck tie you bought from zara and ended up wearing once for an instagram selfie.  (Shhhh wasn’t me.) Violá, use it as a belt to add just a hint of girly flair to an otherwise tomboy look. I love this pullover from Aritzia as it has that super soft fleece on the inside. I will literally wear this for a week straight (doubles as a pj top) not kidding. Although I’m not the biggest fan of the mom jean trend (weird saggy butt and camel toe action…no thanks) these fit like a glove if you buy them a size down.  What do you think of this look and new style of photos? What would YOU like to see me shoot??

back to the grind

So I’ve been in NYC the past two weeks and am pretty sure all the dessert for lunch and late night gelato “runs” are finally catching up. Is it weird to say I’m almost relieved to be heading home and back to green juices and hitting the gym? As much as I love traveling, it’s hard to stay on a healthy routine when you’re living out of a suitcase in a hotel room with no kitchen/fridge. Here’s a look I shot a few weeks back of a casual gym-to-street look. Mostly posting this as inspiration for myself and as a reminder to avoid the sweet options at JFK tomorrow afternoon. Although I’m definitely not that girl working out in just a sports bra, I do like that this jacket is kinda see through so you can show a little bit of skin and still be able to breathe without worrying what your stomach looks like. FYI I was for sure flexing in these pics but maybe the next few weeks in the gym will have me feeling less marshmallow-y.  (Side note: Magnolia Bakery icebox cake is the best thing I’ve ever eaten, recipe here. Make this immediately and thank me later)

one piece for the win

Why didn’t I try out jumpsuits earlier??? You can seriously be dressed & out the door in 15 seconds flat. This super rad denim one from Urban Outfitters is the comfiest thing ever AND looks super cool with a classic motorcycle jacket thrown over. I love how versatile jumpsuits are…wear with sneakers for a day full of errands or throw on some sexy heels and a cat eye for a hot night out. How would YOU wear this??

Sometimes I just want to wear gym clothes. Not because I’m going to workout (lol) but because I’m lazy and don’t want to bother doing my hair or putting on jeans. I mean…spandex shorts, a comfy sweatshirt and sneakers are pretty much the comfiest combo, ever. Am I right??? Also, this look works best on the dirtiest hair days because you can throw it up in a messy top knot and it just looks like you’re very serious about your gym routine. Little does anyone know…you’ve haven’t washed your hair in a week and have zero plans of getting sweaty today. Shhhhh

I’m a sucker for tomboy shit so I basically pee’d my pants when the bomb dot com team at Vans sent over this personalized teal bomber. At first I was like “oh cool, a bomber” but then I saw Rima embroidered on the front (AND back!) and have basically worn it everyday since. Although you can’t order it personalized directly from Vans…you can get it through my little sister who can embroider just about anything.

warmer

Yup, it’s mid October and it’s still hot out. 100 degrees this past weekend?? Ew is about all I have to say at this point. I’ve been really into skirts lately (mainly because jeans make my butt sweaty) and this suede mini from Zara has been my jam. It’s super soft suede leather and feels like an $800 skirt, while it’s only 99 bucks. Score. I’m stoked to rock this into cooler weather with a pair of semi sheer black tights and a turtleneck.

Tevas are comfy af and perfect for summer. How can we keep that party going, now that summer’s officially over? SOCKS. Although it’s not quite sweater weather yet adding an extra layer; denim jacket & socks, feel “fall.” Yeah I’l admit, it feelt a little weird and dorky to rock socks with sandals at first. Apparently no amount of wishing for sweater weather is gonna work. It’s still hot. Ugh. Well, I guess I’ll finally give in and wear a crop top instead of being miserable. I’m seriously sweating at my desk while I type this with a massive fan from target pointed at my face. Only jeans appropriate for this weather? Boyfriends. easy & oversized

When it’s hot as mother f*cker outside and you find yourself ducking into a starbucks every ten minutes (mostly for the AC) it’s time to ditch the jeans and slip into something easy & oversized. Sometimes…a body con dress happens. Although I’m pretty sure this is a Fire on the Head first, my love for pairing oversized tops with a skinny bottom is nothing new. I’ve never been into body con dresses (surprise, surprise) but this simple ribbed tank one is kinda perfect. Not too short and not too tight. Although I don’t normally wear a bra anyway, this dress keeps everything supported. Including the booty. Threw this super cool (and cozy as f*ck) knit on top to ease into the idea of wearing something tight. Who would’ve thought…body con on this blog?!? I’m ok with it.

Denim, crazy

I’m a denim girl, through and through. Be it in the form of a jacket, shirt, pant, baseball hat(it exists and I own it) or bralette; I’ll take it all. When AG jeans asked me to style my favorite pieces from Alexa Chung’s latest collection I was like oh you mean my style/hair/life inspo? That Alexa Chung?  Plus denim? Hell yes. I choose to pair these cool, cropped straight leg jeans with a jacket in the same shade. Broke up the denim-onepiece look with this cool hunter green knit tee and tied it at the waist to show a little skin. Sexin up a canadian tux and what have you. Am I Alexa Chung now or what

#rimaroma part due

Oh hey, remember when I went to Rome last month? Here’s another outfit post from my trip. We just happened to visit during a (relatively) cooler week and missed the super hot temps. Low to mid 80’s all week meant I could get away with a denim jacket during the day. I loved this little dress from Aritzia as it fit loose throughout the body, keeping me cool. Both literally and figuratively. Paired with my sparkly Isabel Marant sneakers for major euro-tourist vibes. Can’t wait to go back!

sunny with a side of leather

I’m all about day to night dressing. And by “day to night,” I mean wearing the exact same outfit and throwing on a leather jacket. Who has time to go home and change?? LA summers are all about super hot days and (relatively) chilly evenings. The solution? Wear a light-weight tank during the day and keep a leather jacket in your trunk for dinner/drinks/night adventures. You’ll stay just warm enough and look hella cool after the sun goes down.

denim kind of fourth

Although the fourth of July has never really been a holiday I get into, I definitely had a great weekend. Fireworks, summer nights & BBQ? You can’t go wrong. I kept it simple and opted to stick to my favorite, denim, instead of embracing the red & whites. Side note. How did I miss the Madewell denim train?? These are my new favorite jeans. That’s seriously saying something considering the amount of skinnies I currently have folded in my closet (32!?!) Also picked up these little heeled sandals while I was in the store and have been wearing them everyday since. Super comfy to wear all day while adding the right amount of “chic-ness” to an otherwise casual outfit.

so it’s summer

Although I think I’ve expressed my distaste for summer dressing let me repeat myself. I actually hate dressing for summer. I feel most comfortable in skinny jeans, sweaters and ankle boots. Black on black on black is kind of my style mantra. Although I’ll usually take a little sweat action if it means I can wear my favorite pieces, this becomes a bit of an issue when it feels like mid 90’s in the sun and jeans just aren’t an option. I know these little denim skirts are v trendy right now but I couldn’t help myself. Its super cute and was only fifty bucks. I figured, if I can’t wear skinny jeans, at least I can sneak denim into my summer wardrobe in the form of a mini skirt that just happens to be the perfect rise to pair with cropped tops.

denim summer

I need to start wearing more dresses. They’re an easy, no-fuss, one and done. This little denim number by Sam & Lavi, via my new friends at zebraclub.com, is the perfect summer staple. Denim & a looser, bf fit makes it a great day to night option that looks just as cool with sneakers as it does with heeled ankle booties. Maybe I’ll actually enjoy dressing for summer this year….maybe

Forever Faded in hemp denim

When my friend Rachel told me that the hemp denim company she’s been working with released a limited run denim jacket I jumped at the chance to check it out. Hemp/organic cotton blend, this jacket is the perfect wash and mid-weight denim. Perfect for summer evenings in LA thrown over a little tank and skinnies. You already know I’m already a huge denim chick but make it sustainable too?? Sold.

denim days

I love a good Canadian tuxedo. Maybe because I am from Toronto but most likely because it’s easy and looks hella cool. Rails is one of my favorite button down brands because every piece is super soft, especially this denim shirt. Although I’d normally pair this top with black skinnies (booooring, I know) I decided to get with the summer season and wear my trusty levis cutoffs. I found this vintage pair a while back in a pile of random sh*t at a yard sale. They fit a little big but I’m into it as it feels much more “cool-girl” than the levis booty shorts I’m starting to see again. Sun’s out doesn’t always have to mean buns out….

bum vibes

Major case of the Mondays calls for baggy bf jeans & a comfy sweater. I’ve been super into these destroyed boyfriend jeans. They have just the right amount of slouch and distressing. I paired them with this simple crop tank, black slides and THE comfiest knit cardigan. Yeah, I’m throwing major bum vibes but idgaf because this outfit makes me feel like the weekend never left.

blue jeans, white shirt

Well the up side to spraining my ankle on set Friday means I can finally get to the emails I’ve been lagging on and can also get some new posts up, being couch ridden is awesome! (that’s sarcasm, fyi) So as you can tell from instagram…I’ve been wearing a lot of black lately, BUT these reworked vintage levis by ReDone have got me back on blue. I love that they’re very stiff denim and are the perfect true-blue color. Kept it simple (duh) with a tee-blouse and sneaks cuz I like to pretend I’m a minimal-queen. Lol

the basics

Simpler is better, especially when it comes to summer dressing. I dread hot weather because I’m not the biggest fan of tank tops, shorts…not being able to wear black (the list goes on.) Although I use this rule everyday, “keep it simple” is the only way I can handle summer. Since I’m not the biggest fan of the standard summer uniform, I paired this lightweight cotton blouse with thin denim baggies for a cool and chic look. I know it almost errs on the side of boring, but it’s a total win when you can look chic (and feel comfortable) all day and well into a hot summer evening. What’s your summer go-to ootd??

rock & roll festival style with teva

I’m really getting into the festival spirit (clearly) with only a few weeks left before coachella weekend one craziness! So when Teva asked me to style a look inspired by my favorite genre of music, I said “hell yeah!” Can you tell what my inspo for this look was? Hint hint: all black, fringe perfect for jumping around/headbanging and a little edgy. Yup. Rock ‘n roll, baby! I choose the original sandal in this awesome snake skin print. An edgy update to the classic style. I paired the sandals with a black fringe dress and distressed denim jacket. Perfect for heading to the festival after sundown and rockin’ out super late. #ramadoescoachella

When Volcom asked me to style two festival-inspired looks for Coachella, I’ll admit I was a little nervous. I’m not a big “boho” girl, but as soon as I saw these little denim short-alls, I was totally in. new neutral

If my instagram is any indication, I tend to shy away from warm colors but I think I may have found an exception. Camel. It’s chic, understated and has been dubbed “color of the season” from all corners of the interweb. A new neutral I’ll definitely be working into my spring wardrobe. This amazing side-zip sweater is my first introduction. Of course, I had to dress down the luxe cashmere sweater with a cool pair of bleach spotted skinnies. Oh and PS I totally cropped the hem myself since I’m super into the frayed look right now. Threw on this cool pair of platforms to give the outfit a bit  more “cool street style” vibes. Oh hey guys. Sorry for the total lack of posts over the past few weeks. I promise I’m alive, I just haven’t had the time to shoot anything new. Ugh. So here’s an outfit I’ve been saving from last month in a few of my spring go-to’s! Paired this amazingly simple, zip back leather mini with an light, grey sweater and denim jacket. Although the leather skirt is high waisted, I played down the sexiness by leaving the sweater untucked. I feel like this makes wearing a tight, leather miniskirt during the day less “are you wearing last nights outfit?” and way more cool-girl. Annnnd just like that we’re well into 2015. Have you been sticking to your health resolutions? I joined Equinox and have been going almost everyday. I’m also proud to say I’ve been holding up on “drink more water” by always carrying a full water bottle…

wool on wool on bare legs

I will always choose a pair of destroyed skinny jeans over a skirt anyday but hey, what better time to try new things than the start of a new year?? Loving this little grid mini from top shop paired with a super oversized sweater to balance out the bare legs. Added my bad b*tch boots because I think I’m  real baaaaad. How would you style this skirt??Rima Vaidila wearingTopshop Embroidered Grid Mini Skirt Urban Outfitters Turtleneck (previously here, similar here)Saint Laurent Boots (previously here & here, similar here)Photos by Nicholas MaggioJavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. little chilly

So it’s a little chilly here in LA and layers are finally appropriate. I’ve been living in this soft denim jacket by AG Jeans. Here I paired it with this little silky cami, celiné knot bracelet and grey high rise skinnies. Denim and ankle boots are kind of my uniform. Rima Vaidila wearing Nana Judy “Charmed Cami” Top (similar here)Levis High Rise SkinniesAG Jeans Denim JacketCeline Bracelet (similar here & here)Diesel Suede BootsPhotos by Nicholas MaggioJavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. back on black

Wow guys, my apologizes for being a total slacker on new outfit posts. The holidays were a nice little break but now…it’s ON. Fresh gym membership, more outfit posts, more travel and more fun. Saying goodbye to 2014 with a fun little tee dress and boot combo. Back on black, shocker. Let’s do it. Rima Vaidila wearingRachel Pally Dress (similar here & here) Lack of Color “The Mirage” (sold out, similar here)Saint Laurent BootsPhotos by Nicholas Maggio JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. seldom seen

With Christmas right around the corner and quite a bit of shopping left to do, my go-to ootd has become as simple and streamlined as possible. Surprise, surprise because that sounds soooooo weird. Kidding. Well I teamed up with online boutique Seldom Seen to create an easy holiday look. I decided to pair this little Wood Wood sweater dress with the Loeffler Randall “work tote.” This bah just happens to be the perfect everyday tote to haul all my usual sh*t, (camera, wallet, sunnies, makeup & other miscellaneous etc etc.) Kept it comfy in the shoe department with my current favorite suede ankle booties. Follow the rest of the SS style series with Alyssa!Rima Vaidila wearingWood Wood “Rosa” Sweater DressDiesel Ankle Booties (previously here)Loeffler Randall Work TotePhotos by Nicholas MaggioJavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. hot & cold

WTF, LA? This weather is all over the place. I tried to commit to sweaters and leather but I’m sick of ending up a sweaty mess by noon. The solution? A little lacey tank under leather. You still look put together if you take off the jacket and bonus points for zero sweat-stained pits. Score. Wear with slim fitting bf jeans and menswear inspired lace ups for cool girl vibes that will literally keep you cool. Rima Vaidila wearingCami NYC All Saints “Conroy” Leather JacketCitizens of Humanity “Emerson Slim Fit Boyfriend” JeansTopshop “Kole Heavy Sole Lace Ups” (previously here)Photos by Nicholas Maggio JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. prep school

This rainy, overcast weather is making me lazy and unmotivated to dress myself in anything but massive sweaters, running tights and wool socks. Forced myself to throw a little somethin somethin together, while still maintaining most of the comfort level. This pullover sweatshirt looks less home-y and more private school kid, when layered over a little collared shirt. I love these ripped knee skinnies and think they’re the perfect contrast to the preppy top action. That, and I also just really really love these jeans. #realtalk What’s your favorite way to wear a pullover, without looking like a bum?Rima Vaidila wearingCitizens of Humanity “Camryn” Sweatshirt (available in grey here)Brandy Melville Collared ShirtPaige Denim Skinnies (previously here)Diesel Suede Ankle BootiesPhotos by Nicholas MaggioJavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. navy, stripes & leather

Nbd just 80 degrees yesterday. I know, I know. I shouldn’t be complaining while the rest of the country freezes but seriously? 80 at the end of November??!  Only in LA. Got a new little swing dress from Reformation appropriate for this heat. Super comfy and it’ll (hopefully) be the perfect layer over sheer black tights if it ever cools down. Obvi added my favorite leather jacket for evening breezes. Will probably wear this dress tomorrow for Thanksgiving bc it’s the ultimate food baby concealer. #realtalk

sheer story

Oh hello random summer weather the other day, glad you left as fast as you came. Took advantage and wore my favorite sheer, layering piece by Ann & Albert. This tank is limited edition and just about perfect. Great for a hint of scandal with a lacey black bra underneath. Also looks super chic tucked into high waisted skinnies/skirt/anything for a night out. And that open back detail?? Yaaaaas. I’m all about it.

finally

And by “finally,” I mean jacket weather. Hallelujah. This new denim & shearing jacket, compliments of the babes at Paige Denim, is kind of a game changer. I mean….black waxed denim, moto zippers AND shearling?? So much yes. Will definitely be rocking this daily for the next few months.

I think I’ve found the one, guys. And by “the one” I mean jeans. The PERFECT jeans. What? Yup. This is kind of a big deal. Yeah so maybe buying a few pairs could also buy you a celine bag…but these crop skinnies by R13 are def worth their weight in gold. Trust me. I’ll probably be wearing them for the next, oh I don’t know, 4 years.
