I did a little roadtrip to Copenhagen this weekend. Although I must be honest here.. my friend drove all the way (merci beaucoup Geerke!). Because of my leg, I’m not really allowed to drive yet. But I love road trips and my biggest travel dream is to drive through whole Europe. One day… but for now little trips are more than great! I never visited Copenhagen before, so I proposed my friend to go there when she said we could drive anywhere for a weekend getaway. We took a ferry from Germany to Denmark. Such a fun and relaxing bonus to the trip.
Hotel Kong Arthur kindly hosted us two nights in Copenhagen. We wanted to explore the entire city, and Arthur Kong is pretty much in the middle of everything, so it was the perfect stay for us.
I think I felt home at Kong Arthur straight away. Besides the welcoming and helpful staff, the ambiance within the room and lobby was warm and free. Exactly what you need in a hotel to feel home at.
Geerke and I loved to stroll through the city, and that’s what we basically did. I was impressed by the architecture: classic buildings mixed through modern (and unique!) designs. It actually reminded me of Amsterdam, especially near the water side, the esplanades.
I found it noticeable that the city has such a peaceful atmosphere. So serene… Almost like no one was making any noise at all. It’s funny that Amsterdam and Copenhagen are often compared, but Amsterdam is so chaotic and overloaded with people. A huge contrast with Copenhagen in my eyes.
Breakfast at Kong Arthur was amazing (breakkie addict here)! Super extended: lots of different cheese, various breads, seeds and nuts to put in your yogurt. I went for an English breakfast the first morning. Egg, tomatoes, sausages, and not to forget cheese (shit, writing this makes me hungry). The second morning I went for a yogurt with homemade granola and rabarber jam. Ok, I stop here, I’m too hungry. Oh I remember everything was organic btw! Always a great extra.
Are you in Europe this summer? You should include Copenhagen within your travel plans! Want to know how we drove and took the ferry to Denmark? Just comment or email me, I can give you some info and tips!
