Sometimes the greatest feature of a home is not the space itself, but instead it’s ability to let the natural surroundings take the limelight. The Fall House situated on the California Coast, is designed to effortlessly blend into the natural surroundings, and aren’t we glad that we stumbled up on it. Perched cliffside in the Big Sur region overlooking the vast Pacific Ocean, Fougeron Architects embedded the home within the land to create ‘a structure inseparable from it’s context’.
Let me just list a few of my favourite features here, and please forgive me for getting carried away: French limestone floors, sustainable timber ceilings, a transparent bath tub, glass library, copper clad exterior, solar power, floor to ceiling windows and even an all glass room (I know, be still my beating heart). Last but certainly not least, the incredible interior styling which is absolute industrial blended with modernist perfection.
If you ask me this home is all about relationships. The effortless relationship between the architecture and it’s cliffside surroundings, and the contrasting relationship between the minimalist interior and the beautifully harsh environment. I think even someone with the most serious commitment phobia wouldn’t think twice about going in for the long term with The Fall House, yours truly included..x
