As you may know, I live in London and one of the downsides to living here is the pollution. It may only be 28th in the latest list of most polluted cities in Europe but I notice it and my skin notices, too. With the rise in awareness of the affects of pollution on the skin a few brands have directed their attention to combating its affects. Sûrface is one-such brand, they harness the antioxidant properties of natural and organic botanical active ingredients in their products to help reverse the affects of pollution. Over the last few weeks I’ve been trying out their City Set #2 which contains their Face Wash, Face Mist and Face Cream.

“SIMPLE, EFFECTIVE AND GENTLE SKINCARE PRODUCTS, TO SOOTH AND WASH AWAY THE NON-STOP ACTIVITY OF CITY LIVING.”

Unless my skin is feeling aggravated I prefer to use a wash-off cleanser, I never feel as though my skin is properly clean otherwise. The Sûrface Face Wash is deep cleansing, it uses Camellia japonica, an ingredient that has been used in oriental medicine as an anti-inflammatory for many years, and Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice, another well-known anti-inflammatory. My skin reacts to touch and will often turn red after I’ve washed my face, it goes away quickly but I was told recently that this is a sign of damage to the hydrolipidic film. The hydrolipidic film is a combination of sweat, sebum and water which helps protect the skin against bacteria. Sûrface’s face wash has been designed to respect the film so it’s ideal for me.

Another piece of advice I was given about supporting the hydrolipidic film was to use a toner regularly. The Sûrface Face Mist is a toner and serum all-in-one. This one lives in my handbag, the small size (80ml) means it doesn’t take up much space and is also flight-friendly. It also contains Camellia japonica, alongside Coenochloris signiensis extract (AKA Snow Algae), a known anti-ageing ingredient.

The final product I have been trying is the Sûrface Face Cream, initially I was unsure whether it was enough for my skin. Its cream texture feels quite substantial but it is absorbed quite quickly. My skin can be a little dehydrated at times so I look for deeply hydrating products which I have often, wrongly equated, to the sensation of feeling the products sitting on my skin but this is not how good products are supposed to work. Ideally, they should be absorbed into the skin so that they can do their job effectively. It also contains Camellia japonica and Coenochloris signiensis extract and. in addition, Mangosteen extract which protects the skin from environmental elements and blocks the damaging effect of free radicals. It also contains Gamma Oryzanol, a natural UV filter.

I’ve also tried a few of their bodycare products, you can read my review here.
