When you land in Tasmania the first thing that you notice is the landscape.  Sweeping fields of long dry grass, fence lines flanked with hedges and tear dropped shaped conifers speckle the landscape .. you could almost be in the middle of Italy.  However, Tasmania is not only famous for its majestic landscapes, it’s also known for being the home of one of Australia’s most prominent modern art galleries, the MONA.
A little over a month ago now, my team and I were lucky enough to travel to Tasmania with of one of Australia’s most well-known retailers David Jones, in celebration of their Autumn Winter 2019 collection launch ‘The Art Of Living’.  With a focus on artistic living, this particular launch was especially exciting and what better way to celebrate this, than to photograph key looks from the season on brand ambassador and the ultimate modern woman, Gemma Ward.
2019 is a year for both my team and I to push the boundaries creatively and there’s nothing I love more than being behind the lens.  With only a super quick 2 hour window before Gemma jetted off to her next international destination, we headed to the iconic Tasmanian Botanical Gardens to capture a playful take on the Art Of Living set amongst the flowers and courtyards, using props from my home including a sculpture that I hand carved myself.  Slinky satin suits by Australian Designer Bianca Spender, International must-haves from Chloe and Balenciaga, along with playful floral pieces from Romance Was Born means that there is something in this edit for everyone.
And even though it was so short and sweet, it was a long-awaited moment to work with the incredible Ms Ward, whose ethereal beauty does not just radiate from the outside but from within as well.  Be sure to keep an eye out for the winter edition of David Jones‘ JONES Magazine where both Gemma and I chat all things creative.  And now all that we need to do is plan a holiday, somewhere that we can make getting dressed an art form .. and may I suggest the sweeping backdrop of Tasmania, it’s as pretty as a picture wouldn’t you say.
